Dealing with a cockerel in a neighborhood. HELP!!!!

https://m.facebook.com/laurensportrait?__user=635817371 Message this lady. She has pictures of her collar on her fb page website and videos of rooster wearing it. And gosh no, no a shock collar. Luckily they are illegal in Australia and anyone caught illegally importing them off the Internet...

Dealing with a cockerel in a neighborhood. HELP!!!!

No more than it hurts a dog or cat to wear a collar. It just goes around the neck and is made of soft stretchy fabric and when they crow it just stops them filling up their neck all the way with air so the crow is not so loud. I put one on my rooster and he just went about his usual day unaware...

Dealing with a cockerel in a neighborhood. HELP!!!!

I've recently met someone in a similar situation and her rooster wears an anti crow collar. He has been wearing it for over a month, And while he still crows it's only half the volume. And it doesn't upset him in anyway, as it's not very tight (no diff to a dog or cat really). I'm in australia...

Guess the sex of my 7wk old chicks

I agree with the above post. I have had a number of tailed Araucanas, and the main way to sex them is boys turn really pink/red abrpund 5/6 weeks girls stay pale. Enjoy those pretty eggs :)

    How To Raise A Rooster

I've just been reading through this forum and oh no, I've done everything wrong! Lol! Ive only had chickens for a few months and decided to keep the rooster that was really confident and friendly and liked jumping on my lap as a chick and I'd walk him around. He is nearly 5months and doesn't...

    Feed question, so confused!

Thanks for that! I had a feeling that the grain mix was better for them just because it's was more natural. The pellets had some soy products and proteins in them that did not seem as natural. But I followed his advice as I didn't know much about the pellets. I think I'll go back to my grain...

    Feed question, so confused!

I am hoping someone can help. I have a mixed flock: 7 hens already laying 4 hens that are 4-5months old and not laying, they are austraian Araucanas with tails similar to American Easter egger I think. I was told they will not lay until 7-8momths. 1 rooster I was feeding them a mixed grain...

    Aruacana or are they...?

If it helps I'm in Australia and have lavendar araucanas, from a "good quality" breeder (I don't show, mine are just backyard pets). So while I can't comment on what the standards are supposed to be, they look exactly like these (except mine are grey). They are very pretty birds! I love...

this chick (allegedly a maran) is 5 weeks old- not growing

:( how sad. I'm sorry about your chick. The same thing happened to my chick. She made it to 11 weeks despite the odds, then deteriorated within a matter of hours. I guess nature always wins.

when will my girls start laying

Hi there and congrats on your chickens. They are so rewarding. Im fairly new myself and have had chickens for only a few months and have just started getting eggs. I think the age they lay depends on the breed. But there are some signs you can look for: They will do this funny squat in front of...

    Leghorn pullets with "rubber" eggs.

If only these chickens would do what we asked. I spent a fortune buying lovely nest boxes and Id love to see them used. Funnily enough they only lay the soft shell over night from the roosts. They lay the hard shells in the nest box sometimes. I just found another very thin shelled on on the...

    Leghorn pullets with "rubber" eggs.

Thanks everyone. I got 2 eggs today, one with no shell under the roost, and one the size of a golf ball in the nest box! It's a surprise what I get every time I go! I hope they sort this laying business out soon :)

My hen makes a funny sound.

Thanks everyone. I hope it's an egg song. She is about 20 weeks now and I'd love to see a little egg! The weather here has finally warmed up so fingers crossed I see one soon. :)

My hen makes a funny sound.

We have 2 Polish X hens, and a range of commercial layers. One of the hens in the link above, makes a crow nothing like the others hens. Most of the hens go "bok bok bok bwaaark". But this hen makes this funny noise from about 5am onwards. She is the only hen I can hear from the house. The...

    Leghorn pullets with "rubber" eggs.

I have had one of my chickens laying our first ever eggs. She is a white leghorn and started laying at 16 weeks. 4 of her 7 eggs have been rubber shelled, there is no hard shell at all. 3 of which she layed from the roost. The 3 hard ones she layed in a nest box. Then this morning I found...

    Baby Buff bad eye

The exact same thing happened with my araucana chick. I made up some weak salty water and wiped it with a cotton wool ball. Opened after the second wipe. Has not happened since. So give it a gentle clean and hopefully it opens. Good luck!

    14 week old leghorn squating...

Thank you! That answers my question perfectly :) I think I should get my nest boxes set up in the next couple of days, just to be on the safe side.

this chick (allegedly a maran) is 5 weeks old- not growing

I have a similar problem with a little Araucana chick. The other hatch mates are over twice her size. She is small, skinny and sleeps a lot. But she still seems to make it first to the feed bowls. I was given a tip to give her extra treats so I give her crumbles softened with a yogurt once a...

    14 week old leghorn squating...

I've had one 14 week old leghorn squatting for me for about 5 days, then yesterday the other one did it. Nothing from the Australorpe, ISA browns or polish fizzles. Is this far too early? Could they start laying in a couple of weeks. They are not on layer mix yet. Also, my polish fizzle girls...
