My geese roam with our chickens. The red tails and ravens even get close and the geese go off with the alarm. I have not had any issues with overhead birds yet. (I have only had them together for two yrs now.)
I had a new hampshire red roo do that as well. He would growl/make noise as he walked around food either in the pasture or the coop. The hens would come running. Then he would eat. Sounds like you have a keeper
hahaha, I read about raising meal worms in byc and was thinking about what I normally end up doing before I read this thread.
I can generally find a nest of mice and toss the babies into the coop which gives the chickens a treat. No, I do not intend on raising mice either, but it proves to be...
Sitting at their level is a good friendly/comforting posture for geese. Yes, I have had to grab a ganders advance or two, but staring them down while holding them and talking only takes once or maybe twice. but they are quick learners.
Geese are a smart bird and are easily trained. Keep that fence idea in mind so that they will know their limits. If I was the neighbor, I would be having a goose dinner by now.

Good point. I keep the guineas fully enclosed in their 20x50' ish coup. The roof height is only 12' so flying is kept to a minimal when the weather is nice.
hahaha, yeah, my 20 some odd guinea would hardly make a peep when it was 0 degrees. I had to feed and water them in the coup as well because they would not walk in the snow. It was quiet around the property during that time! lol Although the fricken geese were still bathing and had icicles...

hahaha, I could actually visualise the guineas standing in front of the hive waiting! I do not have enough acreage to let my guineas free range.
hahaha on the leaf still on the tree scenario. That was a good laugh for the night. I was going to mention the light or if there were lights on, but you already answered to that one as well.
Are they that spoiled then? I still have 22 of them still in the coup and thank goodness they are...
hahaha, on the freezer camp idea. I still have abit over 20 to make that camp just yet. But actually, since it cooled down to minus 0, they all stayed in the coup. Noiseless or a minor peep at times. Now that things are getting warmer, they are more vocal. Mine are 6months now. Not sure...
Sounds like a plan. Have a small platform before the entry and it should work. If I am seeing this design correctly that is. Pigeons will love you as well.
I prefer the turkey or goose egg over duck eggs actually. Yes, they are heavier and of thicker texture (mix one egg per3 chicken eggs in an omelette, or one egg per sandwich). The duck eggs seem to be really rich and I use them in the baking.

Are you sure? My Chinas each layed a egg EVERY OTHER DAY!I wonder if I was doing something wrong?
ok, now it is freezing here, so am lucky now for every other day. Kinda like they stopped all of a sudden.... not sure
wow, sorry on the loss. I really do not think a snake is the culprit at the moment. Once engaged, a python will continue to constrict and eat. At least from what I have seen.
