These are very nice quality little guys, just gorgeous. The little roo still has the big roo attitude though! I'd never seen the "freckles" on the cochin eggs so I was figuring it is probably her laying them...
My daughter recently got a pair of bantam RIR for 4H project and we currently have them in with my cochins as we haven't gotten their hutch ready yet, and I've been finding eggs, almost daily. They are a light brown, lighter than my big RIR lays, and have a few dark speckles on them.
My...
Okay, I understand incomplete dominant. I actually raise chinchillas, and the white in chins is an incomplete dominant. So basically by breeding these girls back to a Columbian roo I'm not gaining anything over breeding them to say anything else. In that case I'll thin these three out and keep...
Is the Columbian gene recessive? I have a couple hens that were crossed with my Columbian roo and my white hen. I didn't know if I took these girls back to the roo if they would produce Columbian's or not.
Thanks for any information.
chickenlittle, if you make a "duck" area he will just ride the hen duck even harder. You will need to seperate him out, get a less aggressive drake, or get several more hens. Aggressive drakes can ride a hen to the point of death, I've seen some ducks in very sad shape because of it. A good...
I have some silver spangled hamburgs I purchased. I have a total of 6, and know I have at least one hen possibly two from eggs laid. They appear to be younger animals, but I am not sure.
Is there any way to tell hens from roos? None appear to have longer hackles or tail feathers at this time...
Will get some pics soon. They don't have a build like runners, they look like baby calls. I was looking at duckling pics and I think that they might be Cayuga's? But I'm not sure. It's possible they are Kahki's but I hatched some last spring and these seem TINY compared to them, they are the...
I picked up two ducklings from the feed store today. They have small beaks and feet, and don't seem as large as standard ducklings, but I could be wrong.
They are a dirty brown color with very dark brown feet/legs, possibly black? Any thought on what kind they are?
Me again...
Upon looking at the posted photos it appears to me that the leghorns have yellow leg and the hamburgs a black/grey leg, so I went out and checked the legs and they are a dark grey leg.
Helpful?
You guys are awesome, I didn't expect so much help getting these guys figured out so...
WOW! Look at all of those answers!
That is exactly what they looked like!
I looked up the hamburg's here: http://www.thebigwranch.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=88&Itemid=14
and they look almost exactly like that, except... the combs do not look quite as long, but they do...
The exchequers are what I was thinking! Hmmm... wonder what they are. My camera isn't home right now but will take some photos when I get it back!
They look almost exactly like an exchequer ( same body style and tail etc) only rose combed... hmmmm I bought 7 of them in one crate but they...
I remember a ways back seeing some chickens of someone's on here and I was thinking they said they were Chequers ( spelling ).
I was at auction this weekend and feel in love with a batch of girls and they looked like what I remembered the photos looking like!
I wouldn't call them a mottled...
$50 sounds really cheap to me. Usually it is a set fee, and would depend on the animal and what is desired. Usually for dogs since one is not a litter the fee is about 1/2 of the cost of the puppy, for example if a puppy would be worth $400 the fee is $150-200.
If it's an unregistered, unshown...
I talked with a gal in the fall about geese, her name was Jen ( Kraus I believe was her last name ) and she was in Kansas.
I can't find any of our emails or her contact information! If anyone knows her could the please give me her information, or have her contact me.
Thank you!
Depending on what you're looking for in a chicken cochins are super friendly, mine all run up when they see me and eat out of my hand and all. Usually they have them in the "bantam" bin, they'll be the ones with the feathered feet.

Okay. That's good to know. The red hen is a okay hen, I have a red mottled roo with okay mottling, but with the trying to thin out I decided to pick two roos and no more, so I guess she will go.
Here is the hen, I went out to get pictures of him and her and got distracted and ended up with...
