We have several Border Aussie puppies almost ready to go to a new farm/home. They are not registered, but both parents could have been had it been really important to us. There are two blue and two red merles and one lilac merle. One blue female and one red female the rest are males. Prices...
Don't get them wet, never feed them after dark... Oh wait thats something else. Lots of light. Mine get light 24/7 at 150 watts in an 8 x 10 room. Also good feed! Which is sometimes hard to find. I make a blend for mine, 1 part calf manna, 1 part cat food, 1 part chicken layer and 4 parts...
I wait until they are fluffy and dry. If they hatch after 9 pm, they are staying the night in the hatcher. I have never left one more than 12 hours though. They will dehydrate fast and need food with in 24 hours to get a good start.

I depends on the processing. Usually $5 for a skinned bird and $8 for a plucked bird. If you skin vs pluck you will see a great difference in cleaning time. Some recipes call for a bird with skin, but I only do that upon request. The great thing about quail is that nobody buys just one!

We have 4 lionhead kits for sale. They were born January 17, 2010 and will be ready to go to a new home March 1, 2010. The doe is white with grey markings and the buck is tan with multi-colored markings. All the kits are a combination of the above.
A relatively new breed, the Lionheads are very...
I have a multi-level packing barn with three basements that are quite easy to keep warm. Quail grow so fast they will be ready for cooler temps in about 4 weeks, but they will stay inside for the good lighting so they start laying quickly. We are now up to 48 hatched. They have to finish...
Update on the quail hatch... So far 46 have hatched out of 80. Five did not make it for various reasons, but we have 41 running around the quail brooder. Here are some pictures;
Whadaya mean its nap time?

No candling for me. Quail eggs are much to small. I very seldom candle chicken eggs until the very end, but we always put in the freshest eggs. I used 1/4" cement board to line 5/8" plywood. I use 2 - 60 watt ceiling fan bulbs, a GQF wafer thermostat and a LG egg turner. I used the...
I have found that with a couple of light bulbs I can keep the basement of my barn above 40 deg F. OK so not everyone has a barn with a basement in it, but it really helps to get a jump start on spring hens if you can hatch in Nov/Dec. Add a little fat to the the chicks diet or feed them some...
We hope to be hatching 40 Coturnix Quail on the 9th or 10th of January. We have 50 Chicks under 5 weeks in the barn basement right now, might just as well add some Quail to the mix. For those of you having temperature problems with styro bators, try putting a good heavy towel or quilt over it...
Well I finally did it and put in my first batch of quail eggs. We have 50 Chicks running around in the barn, might just as well add some quail to the mix. We have more eggs than we know what to do with. I suppose I should turn out the light at night. I will post pictures if we have good...

If you haven't already, add some small bottles of water to the incubator to help even out the temps. Also, if you have a homemade incubator start with the temps suggested for a forced air then adjust to your specific needs. It took me a year to really get a great hatch from my...
Well for those of you who followed the Austrailian sheperd Double Merle thread, here is a picture of Dakota in her first snow. She is truly turning out to be a great dog! She trains easily and is a serious attention hound. We have to pay attention to her eye socket, but it is no trouble. Did...
Well after year of playing with the incubator and not really getting great success, we finally got it. Gave up on measuring humidity, by the book temperatures and finally dialed into a great hatch. Today was hatch day. 34 eggs set. went out this morning to get the small brooder going and...
Offer the man $50 for the goat. Then get pictures and post them on backyard herds. Get Storey's Guide to raising Dairy Goats. You will never regret it!

We had the same exact problem last year with a stray puppie. He couldn't even sleep soundly. All it took was time, I guess it was several months. Our guy was not abused phsically, he was dumped in the country and managed to stay alive for a good while sleeping in pastures with livestock. He...
