Hi there! When we added two polish to our mixed breed flock, their heads were pecked so bad. Chickens love those blood veins in the feathers and once it starts, it's hard to stop. Polish are nice chickens so they allow the abuse.

have a sick chickenwith a purple comb? Here's why!

When my chickens showed these same exact symptoms, I believed they were not getting enough oxygen due to either parasites or a respiratory issue. I immediately started them on acidified copper sulfate for 7 days then wormed them. The purple combs cleared up on day 3 of CS. Hope this helps.

Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

It's great to have such knowledgeable people come together on a thread. But we usually just share our ideas and explain them. We don't attack each other. Kathy is very knowledgeable and has helped save so many birds. We all do research. That is how some of us found BYC. You attacked me as well...

Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

I purchased year old hens that had Lice, mites, and tapeworms. I also had hens that had roundworms. Ivomec injectable only killed the live bugs. I then had to treat with safeguard and Valbazen. I've also done some research and in some areas of the US where Ivomec hasn't been used a lot, it may...

Hi everyone!!!! My daughter has always wanted a silkie so I bought two this spring. The female was killed last week. She's pretty sad about it we had to put a lot of work into that poor girl. If anyone has any available or frizzled chicks or eggs, that would be wonderful. I have eggs I could...

    Hands on hatching and help

All of my eggs hatched and this hen is awesome! She hatched some as well. She took in my incubator chicks with no problems. I didn't even wait until it was night to put them under her. She's a great mom.

The vein still has all of the blood in it? I've found when you open them up and they're not ready, they can't fully absorb the blood so if some is going away this is good. I think that one must have been hit the hardest by temp fluctuations. Just keep it moist, and do your best to keep...

It's sad when they're all alone. I'm sorry you're not sleeping. I've been through this as well. I put a small stuffed animal in with them and my chick will cuddle right up to it. I haven't hatched ducks so I'm not sure. How is your humidity in the bator?

...it inside a fruit flat and I cover it with one also. My hatch rate is insane now. These are not insulated good at all so if your house isn't at a steady 70* without drafts, the temps bounce around. My temp doesn't move at all since using the box. I don't use either one of my red plugs either.

First things first, if there is blood in the vessels of the membrane, it's not ready. Please don't assist the chick until the blood is gone. There might be a tiny bit in the bottom of the egg but when it's ready, you shouldn't see much by its beek. Your bator temps are too low so the...
