    lone baby Guinea

That is honestly the best thing I've heard today. Maybe someday I'll name one of my chickens after a quirky actor. Did you do GISHEHES this year? I wanted to, but didn't get to it.

    lone baby Guinea

So… Guineas are notoriously terrible mothers, as I found out today. Apparently, a Guinea hatched a clutch and decided to leave them/ let them wander. I caught one, and might catch one or two later, but they're scattered around the pasture. If this ends up being the only one I manage to catch...

BLACK COMB AND HARD TIME BREATHING

I'm sorry to inform you, Scruffy only got worse, so we decided it was in our and her best intentions to cull her. She was barely alive, and would have died in a week or so anyways.

BLACK COMB AND HARD TIME BREATHING

Okay. They already have minerals and vitamins in their water, and I will give them veggies and eggs. I noticed she has bumps in the roof of her mouth. Should I remove them?

Can you help me confirm if this is Foul Pox or Fungus

there are little bumps on the roof of her mouth. Should I remove them?

BLACK COMB AND HARD TIME BREATHING

Thank you! The only thing is that link didn't tell me if avian pox is fatal, and how to help them through. Any ideas?

Can you help me confirm if this is Foul Pox or Fungus

Is there any way to help them through? I think my hen has avian pox, and her WHOLE comb is covered in black scabs, and she has a hard time breathing. I heard this is the "wet" strain. She doesn't look to be getting better.

BLACK COMB AND HARD TIME BREATHING

My hen, Scruffles has a black comb (I think they're scabs because when you touch it, it bleeds), a hard time breathing (labored, shallow gasps), and the runs. I thought it was because her back end was clogged up. I gave her a warm bath, complete with Epsom salt, and "unclogged" her. She...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

My broody hen, Bertha might have a yeast infection. After successfully hatching 16 healthy Guineas, I noticed that the feathers on her underside (belly) are gone. There is some redness and irritation. She is acting normally, and hasn't been pecking her belly. She is a great mother so far and I...

Hello So are these birds cod hardy? I have a friend who is hatching Calico Cochins and we live in Northern Wisconsin so....

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Are you giving them oyster shells/ layer feed with calcium? That might cause "jelly" eggs without the right amount of calcium.

    Guinea with broken leg

Thank you! That's the exact point I was making. The Guinea isn't full grown even, so it'll be even easier to cope. At first he lost weight, but now he's learned how to perch on the food/ water because he can't stand up fully. He's gained muscle in the other leg and calluses on the other, so he...

    Guinea with broken leg

Yes, I have been thinking about these things, and culling it seems like the best thing to do, but, if he's not in pain anymore (healed), and none of the others pick on him, then I see no reason to cull him if he's not suffing. If I walk in to see him in pain (for example inguring again) I will...

    Guinea with broken leg

So… I have a Guinea that has a broken leg. It's been like that for a while and is backwards. So instead of the foot on the ground it is facing up straight in front of his/ her chest. It seems to get around fine (a little slow) and has healed, so it doesn't hurt anymore I just wanted some opinions

Trouble shooting poor hatch rate for a neighbor

You could put electrolytes in the water. I use Sav-A-Chick electrolytes and probiotics for my chicks first two gallons of water. It might help the mother too, and you could also add vitamins. (I also consider myself inexperienced, I've only hatched 19 chickens, 7 guineas, bought 30 Guinea chicks...

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

I feel like a mother watching her babies grow up… one of my around 11 hens left a birthday surprise (her 5 month). She layed 3 perfect little brown eggs over the span of three days (had to go away for a while). I saw a couple possible hens who could have layed it with extra red combs… and I...

    It's been a roller coaster

About to get 30 how long until they can leave the brooder?

I actually think it was vitamin deficiency because we don't think they fed the mothers enough and after about a week because it was too hot, because they were in a small space because we were building a brooder palace complete with lights and outlets, I'll post pics
