I do like the hot sauce idea, that might work. She is outside most of the time with my other dog and I do collect the eggs by the end of the day. I managed to fence off an area where she can't get to the nest but the chickens can. There is one chicken that manages to lay in a crate that we...
The only problem is that she's still a puppy and small, she's 10 weeks old. Although I showed her an egg and she went after it and told her NO! after a couple of that, she just stared at it. We'll see how good it worked.
Need some help. My new puppy think the eggs are great toys. I see her with one and she runs. Then she breaks it and the others eat it. Any ideas how to stop that? I can't be outside with her 24/7. I was thinking of showing her an egg and telling her no! But not sure if she'll even care.
Thank you guys so much....I counted all the chickens again before I closed them up for the night and they were all there. Not sure if one was hiding and then came out later.
all I can think of is that they scream because of the threat and they all ran and hid.
I was kicking myself all day...
I never thought I would but because I scolded my dog for biting at a chicken, (dog wanted the bread) and put her in for being bad. 5 minutes later I hear my chickens screams something fierce. I went outside and saw that all chickens were hiding either by the trunk of the tree or in the coop...
Thanks Sunny side up, they did it the same way I did except I plucked. I didn't know about ACV added to the water. That's a great idea. Wish I knew about it before.
sometimes I had the temperature of the water over 150, couldn't wait to cool it down so we just dipped real quick. It worked just fine. A little bit of skin tearing but not significant at all.
We only prepared for it the night before. We decided 8 roosters crowing starting at 4am, was not...

We chopped the heads off. Actually my hubby did that dirty work. My stomach turned as I saw them hanging bleeding out. The easiest was plucking. Didn't realize how easy the feathers came off and it was actually relaxing. Hardest was when I was gutting, wish I had someone with me to...
Thanks, I've sure learned alot since my last bird. Not anxious to do any more right now. The smell did me in for awhile. I looked in my freezer and the chickens are frozen solid, so I probably can't thaw now. But I did put one down in the refrigerator so we can eat it in a few days. Next...
Today we butchered 7 roosters, took us 4 hours but it was our first time, just my husband and I. I've been hearing to let them sit in ice water for a while. I let it sit for about 4 hours, then seasoned and froze them. Is that too short of a time frame for sitting in ice water? Should I take...
well, I found the missing eggs, they've been laying in our hay barn I pulled out the eggs I found and just an hour later, found 3 more there. They are conspiring and all laying there.
I thought of mites but the ones that I think have it are the ones that are laying. The main rooster really likes the ones the look like they have mites. So I figure the reason the feathers are off is because of him and it's only 4 of my hens.
Not sure if this is normal but my hens are not producing like they used too. They are 1 1/2 years old...a week ago they would lay 6-7 eggs a day. I do have the baby roosters that are now bigger than the hens but they are not trying to mate yet. They will be butchered real soon. I'm just...
Mine was in the coop with my adult chickens since 3 weeks old but in a caged area. So that way they slowly get introduced. Then at about 5 weeks, I let them out with the adult chickens. Mine are free range and only go in the coop to lay or sleep. I've never had any problem, just when a chick...
Thought I'd put this info out to prevent others from doing the same mistake. I was really dumb. The past week, when I would put the chicks in the coop, they were all next to the coop all huddled up and some would be in a PVC tube. I thought it to be too cute at the time. Until yesterday I...
