About 14 weeks or so, very small. My bantams are, some OEG Xs, with Black Rosecombe, Seabright and Cochin, that I am aware of.
I have hatched Bantam/fullsized Barred Rock Xs beofre, but they were always bigger, and more barred rock characteristics too...
Hi all, here is a little
white bantam pullet we got this summer.
Now I have no idea what breed, none of the flock look like her. I have 1 barred rock/sussex X hen, but don't think it's hers. She was hatched by 1 of my broody bantam hens. She has some white feathers on her feet too.
Sorry for...
Hey al, have a number of eggs hatching with 2 broody bantam Cochin X hens, some of the standard eggs, Sussex/Barred Rock X OEG/Cochin/Black Rosecomb Roosters, has yielded a few interesting hatches.
Last hatch in early April, the 2 standard eggs that hatched, with the bantam fathers, produced 2...
Here we go, OEG Bantam Roo, 1 BR Bantam Hen, 2 chicks, 1 bantam X with Cochin/OEG/Black Rosecomb/Seabright, 1 chick full sized barred rock/sussex mother was white and bantam OEG/Black Rosecomb father.
They seemed to be happy and healthy, I also have a cochin cross bantam hen with 3 chicks of...
Hey all,I have 2 broody hens with there chix, just hatched the past few days. They are in the hen house, 6 X 8 ft, there are other hens, large attached run, but the big chickens are making a huge mess of the waterer and small feeders. I have pine/spruce shavings in the building as bedding...
Thanx Ridge, got the barricades down, all adult birds in the run, but will leave all together, as you and the others have suggested. The chix are doing fine, 2 are tiny bantams, and the others are 1/2 bantam breeds and 1/2 fullsized, they are definitely bigger....
I have 2 broody Bantam hens, they each have 3 chicks, 2 bantam chix, and 4 bantamXfullsize chicks.
They are in the hen house, but barricaded, the other hens, both bantam and fullsized can hear and see them, so do the roosters.
I had all adult birds except 1 OEG bantam roo,out in the covered run...
Hello, I have 5 hatched now, 2 bantams and 3 bantam X Fullsized. The 2 brrody hens are 1 cochin bantamX, 1 pure Black Rosecombe. I started with 12 eggs, 1 was a dud in 1st week, lost another, go cracked. I had 1 full term still born, ( this chick was all yellow too) momma egg was a white barred...
I would wait until 3-4 days past the 21 day point. Whaddya got to lose, nuthin at this point. Don't fool around with the eggs, let the hen do the job.
If they don't make it, try again, with another broody hen.
I hope it works out for yah,.....good luck
Hi all, some of the chix have hatched the past 2 days, 2 batches of eggs, 2 hens brooding. The breeds are bantams BR, OEG Cochin X Seabrights. The standard eggs are OEG/cochin bantam X with full size Sussex/Barred Rock hens.
I have 1 of the hens with 3 chix, in the pics, the Momma is purebred...
Yes let nature, the hatch and Hen do their thing. I have had 3-4 hatch the past 2 days, at days 22/23, with a few later eggs waiting, should have a few more hatched out by morning. Mine are Bantams, some black Rosecombes/cochin/OEG, and some Barred Rock/Light Sussex standard/Bantam Xs., The...
Last year the batches were staggered about 3 days, all went well, this year it is about 4 days with a few a week later.I have moved later eggs to 1 hen already. I am hoping this helps out in this situation. Last years hatch, all were hatched by 48 hours of the 1st, so not bad. My hens stayed in...
Hey all, decided 1 week ago to allow 1 of my broody bantam hens to brood a batch of eggs, some standard sized and some bantams, added eggs for 3 days, had 9 total, all identified and marked. The other hens were trying to climb in too, then my pure black rosecombe hen went broody, grabbed some of...
If you go with a very small 600 watt oil rad heater, cage it in and keep the t/stat low, it will cycle on and off, and keep the deep chill out of the coop. This far more effective thana brooder heat bulb, even though I do have both, but it gets extreme up here. I have only had the little heater...
Here is my answer for this, but I am going make a "Blanket Statement", to all of those in the South or northern areas to, I do sympathize with this cold, it will be brief for most of yall, in my case it will be 75
% of the winter with nightly temps below 0f.
This is my little insulated...
Okay yes this is true, and depending on your local environment, folks kept certain breeds known to handle whatever cold gets dished out.
So when my parents were kids, no electricity until the early 50s, so what,. lived without, don't bother with heaters now, have the water pail frozen every...
