Hatching Bantam/Standard Hybrids

Discussion in 'Incubating & Hatching Eggs' started by Rooster Rules, Aug 5, 2014.

  1. Hey al, have a number of eggs hatching with 2 broody bantam Cochin X hens, some of the standard eggs, Sussex/Barred Rock X OEG/Cochin/Black Rosecomb Roosters, has yielded a few interesting hatches.
Last hatch in early April, the 2 standard eggs that hatched, with the bantam fathers, produced 2 very barrred rock cockerills, but as of yesterday, they are not as big as a standard bird, but are 2 times bigger than the bantams that were hatched along with them.
I did get 1 pure yellow chick, 1, 1/2 black and yellow chick, and 1 darker chick hatched yesterday. I have about 9 eggs to go. The standard hen, that produced the egg for the yellow chicks, is pure white, but you can see barring juist faintly in her feathers. The father roo is mostly dark, and was an OEG/Cochin cross.
I will post pics later. I have dubbed the hybrids, as miniature, somewhere between Bantam and Standard.....
