Hello!

Our stubborn hen would not get out of her broody spell (over a month)and nothing worked to break her, gal was determined to be a mom lol so we ended up caving and giving her a two eggs. They were laid a couple days apart. I’ve candled them off and on through the weeks and both seemed to be coming along well. I candled them last Monday and they both had similar air cells. On Wednesday afternoon egg #1 (Azure blue mom X Silkie father) pipped then hatched the next day. We’ve been awaiting movement form egg #2 (full silkie) since Thursday but no pipping so far. I just candled the eggs before we tucked everyone to bed and the air cell is significantly larger than Monday. Monday it was just the bottom part of the egg, but today it’s kinda going up the side of the egg. I haven’t been able to see movement from either egg all along though.

This is our first time hatching so we are super unknowledgeable if it’s going to hatch or not…. Our worry is that egg #2 won’t hatch and the one chick that has will be alone.

My question is, should we to be safe get our hen and chick a couple of other day old chicks form someone else to be safe? Or wait out egg #2 a little longer?

Thanks!

If the eggs were put under the hen at the same time, they should hatch within a day or so if each other. Candeling a egg that is about to hatch should show obvious movement of the chick in the air cell. A moving air cell would be a sign of a dead egg.
If you want more chicks you could try day olds (not older) immediately Be aware not every hen accepts chicks that did not hatch under her.

They were put under our Hen around two days apart.

Since the air cell has grown / moved from earlier this week is that a bad sign? How many more days should we leave it with her? I believe yesterday was 21 days exactly for the egg
