My little Blue Wyandotte made his first attempt at crowing (more like croaking) this morning too!!! It startled me honestly. I was like, what was that!?!? Did u just try to crow!! And he just stood there all innocent. I think he may have startled himself! Lol

Yes in Wyandotte’s straight combs are a recessive gene and not considered part of breed standard.

This one confuses me. Opinions welcome :)

That’s what I thought too, but her tail development and behavior had me fooled. That makes me happy, my daughter would have been devastated.

This one confuses me. Opinions welcome :)

So we picked up 2 production reds from a pullet bin on April 9th. My daughter named this one Jewel. Jewel has always been bigger and grown faster than any of our other pullets. I often sit with them out in the run and talk, interact and observe. Jewel has shown zero aggression towards...

What bedding to use in chicken run that is poorly drained and wet

I would put in drain tiles or some sort of drainage system prior to moving your coop. Sand would be your best option as it drains easily, and will be easy to clean daily With about 10-15 min of attention. (Depending size of coop)

    Any idea on breed/gender?

Looks like a production red. We got some fromTSC too. As far as gender, I’m not convinced it is a cockerel.

7 weeks and 2 days... not roosting in coop

You need to teach them. It isn’t something they automatically know to do. U need to go out and pick them up and place them on the roost. They will begin to figure it out.

    Louisa or Louis?

Hmmm, I’m leaning towards Cockerel. I don’t see rounded, straight tail feathers. I see tail feathers that seem to be more pointed and curving.

Roo or Hen? HELP! (2 Easter Eggers)

His tail feathers look more pointed, undefined and appear to curve. Pullets tail feathers are straight, with rounded ends and tend to be much more defined. Hope that helps.
