This hatch was our first experience with late stage loss and 2 didnt make the hatch. 2 pipped blood vessels in the side and 2 others were malpositioned but all hatched with assistance. There was also a surprise chantecler chick (breeder told me before hand and was happy to possibly hatch it...
More babies!
AToday is day 21 for our set of 13 RIR eggs for the 4h. This evening (after a long afternoon of hovabator checking...)
6 eggs have pipped.....again a little later than I thought but maybe they're waiting on my chickencrazylady sister who is visiting in the morning!
I did about the same thing last month and asked around for another incubator to borrow, sounds like you may ahve some chicks soon! Good luck Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk HD
Hey there! We had a few similar, they were RIR/EE mixes, they had varying leg colors from green to orange and some with more eyeliner then others. I have a 2 week old who is feathering out pretty!
Can you tell anything by the combs? I know that can sometimes help identify mixes. We just started some pet project eggs for my 4h teen and there will be surprises there, cream legbar over different hens. Cant wait to see pictures of them all!
Set 13 RIR eggs into lockdown today, due for hatch Wednesday, maybe a bit earlier for the bantam size. These babies are going to 4h raffle auction on Valentine's ♡
Congrats to the healthy hatches, my total for January was 35/36 chicks (Last night we lost an upside downwrong end pipper that ended up hatching but didnt survive the night) I was sad but I did all I could and I am glad it at least wasnt traumatic or that I had to make the decision some of you...
I read a few books about hatching and they actually say later is better, just like human preemies I guess they are smaller, slower and have more issues with hatch and survival. I had one last week that was a full 36 hours past everyone else and was a first to pip, just took longer in the shell...
Day 20 for this weeks 7 eggs and already a marans has a pip, I'm going to try hatching upright in an egg carton this time!

Hi guys! I have some pretty RIR (8large5banty) going into lockdown February 1st, due to hatch on the 4th. I am hatching these for donation to my kids 4h chicken auction.
This last batch was late, dont worry yet....if you see the neck spasms consistantly and hear distress but no change then maybe check again but its prob just a late one like my last marans/orp egg Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk HD
Thanks! Sure, I had read that some boys feather slower. The girls wings showed feather pins poking out faster, they stick out like longshortlongshortlong pattern. The boys were kinda like the same length all across.
At a week old I can still see a difference in growth between the two, now...
