Eggs what do you do if they are dirty and how dirty is acceptable? Maybe you could show me your eggs you collect?

If washing eggs the water should be hot not cool. Cool water can cause bacteria to seep into the egg through the pores. Think contraction of the egg contents drawing in whatever is on the outside vs expansion with hot water preventing seeping. Washed eggs have no bloom left so should be...

    What gender

Hmmm....a bit young for male specific feathers like pointed hackle and saddle. Any crowing yet?

    What gender

Nothing says male to me BUT knowing age would certainly help.

    Invading Neighbors Garden

I also say fencing them onto your property is the right answer to the problem. It will also help keep them from being picked off by random predators.

Tell Me All Your Hardware Cloth Secrets

Be sure to check amazon for the clips and pliers. I have found quite a price difference between stores here and many don't even have any.

Tell Me All Your Hardware Cloth Secrets

I also used wood strips and J clips. The J clips take special pliers and don't work on anything smaller than 1/2" hardware cloth but are so very worth it. I used zip ties to hold things together while I went back with the clips.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. Losing such a kind and creative person so very young is gut wrenching. Words are just not enough sometimes.

Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

Having a cough for months would be very draining. Terribly sorry you are still dealing with it. Maybe an over the counter allergy pill can help. I really like the 3 yard quilt patterns. I may have to dig through my stash and make a few myself this winter. They wrote the patterns very well...

    New set up

I would keep the dishes in their pens. You will feed less wildlife that way. Spreading it on the ground would waste a lot AND still feed unwanted wildlife.

    Why did my rooster die?

So sorry you lost him especially in such a confusing way. :hugs It could have been any number of things that took your boy down. While calcium build up in birds not needing it CAN kill them it takes a long time of over consuming it. Calcium for the flock is best put in a separate container...

    Do Hens “Crow”?

Yes hens can crow...however...It is generally when they are old and stopped laying. Can you add a picture or two of your crower? As to sounding funny, young males learning to crow take time to get it right.

Anyone With Wallpaper in Their Coop???

I agree with @CabritaChicks. I would suggest using a good quality outdoor paint with a semi-gloss finish. It may take 2 coats but is worth it in sealing the walls. Mine has been holding up well even after 10+ years.
