For some reason I have gotten two notifications that new threads have been started. They were by the same member, who I don’t even follow. I wasn’t watching either of the forums that were posted in. I also wasn’t tagged.

None of those settings seemed like they would have sent me a notification for those threads. Also, totally unrelated, but what does it mean when it says “alert” and “push”? What’s the difference between the two?

Push notifications are the one that open up a new tiny window on your screen and the alerts are the ones that show up on the bell icon.

Maybe the post got moved from a forum that you are watching. Sometimes that happens to me.

I never get any tiny window to open up. Maybe because I'm on a PC. Everything that I have checked "alert" also has "push" checked, probably by default, but I don't see the difference in them as the notifications of anything are all the same to me.

There's a main setting for it above the choice for the Alerts/Push Notification check boxes if you can see it. It might be disabled.

If you blocked them in Chrome, you can turn them back on using the site settings options. Sorry, unsolicited information if you're not actually wanting them turned on. 😄

That could be that I have them blocked in Chrome. I don't need any pop-ups, though, as I get enough notifications. :)

Just never have I received unexplained ones like this OP says she's getting.

@21hens-incharge was having this issue quite some time ago. I'm not sure how she ever got it resolved now, but first, go to your profile, preferences.

Then scroll down to:

Receive a notification when someone…

I think initially, she found one of those settings got changed inadvertently.

It never was resolved for me. I still get tons of notifications for no reason.

Thanks! I thought that might be what it was.

I though about that. Maybe that’s what it is.
