Please help! Dying chicken fast onset

Hey I just wanted to post an update. Everything is good. Marigold is fully recovered and is back with the flock. Of course reintroduction was necessary, but Rosie was still being a big jerk so I isolated her for a day, once it seemed like Marigold and Clementine would be ok together. It really...

Please help! Dying chicken fast onset

@theoldchick Thank you, yes it doesn't seem like any crop problem reading about weight loss, etc. @Eggcessive thank you for saying she didn't look distended. I think I'm just a cuckoo head right now. I need to sleep. Husband and i went and thoroughly felt her chest and neck and he's probably...

Please help! Dying chicken fast onset

Dudes. I think I'm off. I think it may be her crop. I'm going to go physically examine my healthy chickens for a comparison after the kid goes to bed. And I'm going to read. And I'm going to call the vet in the morning and see if he'll look at a chicken. But the thingsthat don't add up are...

Please help! Dying chicken fast onset

Thank you again everybody! I would say that Marigold is definitely no longer dying!:celebrate I brought her with me to work and although I was somewhat concerned about the stress involved with that, I wanted to be able to baby her and monitor her. Hubs said he'd take care of her, so I'll let...

Please help! Dying chicken fast onset

Ointment worked to easily open the eye. It still exists. She ate a very tiny bit of egg and drank more water. She's packed up and ready to go with me today!

Thank you @4 Georgia Hens and @Maddison She seems much better this morning. Stood up pn her own, is looking around with her good eye, color seems a bit better on her good side, bad side looks terrible. She took water on her own when I dipped her beak. Seems very much like an injury. I'll post...

Please help! Dying chicken fast onset

Thank you. She seems a little more awake. I was able to give her some droppersful of water. I wiped her crusty eye and her whole face gently with a warm damp rag a couple of hours ago and that may have caused bruising. It's darker colored on her face now with green esp around the bad eye. I...

Shes newish to the flock.....had her only a couple of months. My rhode island red is a little bit of a...

Please help! Dying chicken fast onset

She was great Saturday. Yesterday afternoon I noticed she was just standing in the coop when my other two came out to get snacks. Today i found her laying unresponsive with a swollen face. I can't see any injuries. Her crop doesn't seem full. I haven't stuck my finger in her butt to look for an...

Sorry for your losses as well! That's too close together...maybe the time of year? Or maybe your EE is just on an adventure and will come home. Good to know that a BB gun will take out a smallish predator. I have a 14 year old with an airsoft that he just hits targets with. (Once I took out a...

Against the law? That seems a bit illogical, considering that the roosters themselves aren't always kind or gentle to the girls they guard. Not to mention most chickens in the world have it a lot shorter and worse lives than an unprotected free ranging hen.

I let my 3 girls out all day long today. I went to close the coop right at dusk but one was missing. I looked for her and called her thinking she may have gotten separated from her sisters and roosted somewhere outside of the coop. I found her dead at the edge of the yard in some light...

    Heirloom Seed Saving Over Time

That's awesome! What a bunch of fun experimentation. I grew some volunteer pumpkins and tomato seedlings this year. I wasn't sure what was going to come out, but everything was worth eating....even saved some of the cherry tomato seeds. They weren't amazing tasting, but I'm curious about...

    Heirloom Seed Saving Over Time

I have recently heard that saving your own open pollinated seeds will, over time, create a better, more hardy plant specific to your typical growing conditions. I am excited about this concept and would love to believe that next year's black krim tomatoes will be happier than this year's (which...

My compost pile is not getting hot!

When I start a new pile and want it to heat up and get cookin', I nicely ask my family to save their pee in gallon jugs for me for a day or so. They complain and say I'm basically a jerk, but they do it. Then I dump it in and wait 3-4 days before turning. Usually a new pile for me will consist...
