Updates are always on the top. To read from the beginning, start at the bottom and read up. :)
February 1, 2009: Forgive me for the long silence! The chicks hatched on their due date, January 23. I wound up with nine Sussex, five Polish and one Sultan. The Sultan didn't make it past 72 hours...
Hi! I am Dorothy. I live in northwestern metropolitan Atlanta with my husband and nearly-3-year-old son. I am a SAHM and a graduate student working towards my MFA in figurative painting. I am doing my schoolwork via online and distance learning. We are building our coop/run in January 2009. At...
My Easter Egger hen laid her first egg at around 4 and a half months of age. She was later to start than the Australorps that are the same age as her, but only by a couple of weeks.

Post here in the sell/trade section. I think people like brown leghorns and you should be able to rehome them.
BTW, if you do Craigslist, your taker may eat them. If that's not a problem for you, fine - just something you should know.
I had 8 young roosters to re-home and I managed...

Pretty much any home/garden/farm type store - we just went to Home Depot's garden/lawn department and asked for it. It's super-cheap, like $3 for a huge bag. Be sure and read the label to make sure it's the non-acidic kind of lime.
I love the egg song, too. I'm not sure if all my girls do it, but if one starts up, quite a few of the others will join in. And often the roosters will toss in a crow or two. It's hilarious, awesome, wonderful and just lots of fun.
I have two roosters, a White Crested Black Polish and a Speckled Sussex. Neither of them have ever given me a second's trouble. They show no aggression towards humans, they don't fight each other, they're nice to their ladies, and they don't crow excessively.
I have to say that my WCB Polish hen did not have any red showing at 5-6 weeks while my WCBP roo did. There was little difference in their crests at that point, but the presence of the wattles turned out to be the determining factor for the boy. He began sprouting his comb soon after.

wow i love that pic!!! nice fabric?? whats it on?
Thanks! It's on a tote bag I made myself out of fabric scraps, so I guess that isn't much help! Glad you like it!
AllCluckedUp - I like your post! I was thinking the same thing just now.
Been waiting impatiently for my Australorps, hatched Jan 1, to start laying, especially since most of them have nice, red, well-developed combs and wattles. A little while ago I heard a pullet making odd noises that I had...
Gotta agree - edit your subject line to give your location in North Carolina. I read it as it is and I got all excited - "Wow do I have some roosters! Come get 'em!" Unfortunately I am not near you.
