Young hen having feathers on head pecked off!

I think you all are right about it being mating. She is so submissive that he is always mating with her more than the others. The others are broody so they mostly chase him off or run away. But not my little girl... Is there anything I can give her to make her feathers grow back quickly? How...

My girl just ate a scary looking centipede!

Is it dangerous for chickens to eat centipedes? I thought they were deadly? This was a red one, looked pretty scary but she just kept going at it like it was the most delicious thing, and now She keeps scratching at her beak

I thought the pics posted but they never did im sorry, here they are! The first pics are the run and coop. The last pic is what I bought yesterday, they both stain blue, the hen healer is a balm and the kote is a spray since they were all out of the lotion kind. I'm also about to post...

Young hen having feathers on head pecked off!

Everyday they have dug up even more stuff, I mean I honestly don't know where it keeps coming from! Every single day I clean the entire run and coop out, but the next day there's debris everywhere again... We ordered a big pile of good dirt months ago and I've already filled in half, but I...

Young hen having feathers on head pecked off!

Do I need to file them after I clip them? And with holding her chin up, do you mean do it while every one is watching, for how long? And how many times? And im a firm believer that all animals have feelings and can love :love

Young hen having feathers on head pecked off!

I would love some ideas though, the floor of the run still hasn't been finished but I may can add something fun in the meantime.. And with the whole floor not being done, well when we had the run built nobody noticed how DIRTY the dirt was, the were millions of tiny pieces of junk everywhere...

Sorry! I'm just now getting on here...thanks for all the replies! So they are all 9 months, they were shipped together from day 1 and raised together everyday. She is just so tiny compared to everyone else, she reminds me of me, when I was young. I have always been very short and small and was...

Young hen having feathers on head pecked off!

I have a small young black bantam cochin who now has a bald spot right on the top of her head. Either the rooster (also a black cochin bantam) is pulling them out when he's mating with her or the other 2, which are white silkie bantams, are pecking them out. She's much smaller than all the...

    Need advice, Very worried

I have one more question, Say I do use the new soil and the deep litter method over it. When it is time to clean it all out at the end of the year or however long, will I also have to get new soil? My dad seems to think we are going to need to replace the dirt under the bedding as well. He...

    Keeping the coop ramp clean

I love the removable ramp idea. I was just brain storming some ideas.. What about instead of a ramp how about a couple perches going up that way they poop and it falls top the ground? So they kinda hop their way up

Is there a way to get a truck load of dirt like you would sand?

    Need advice, Very worried

Why soil and not sand? Won't they be able to dig deep then?

    Keeping the coop ramp clean

That's a great idea! The ramp came with the coop that way, and for some reason I didn't even think to make my own and replace it. Lol
