Speckled Sussex laying weird eggs...please help!

She turned 1 in May and she has been laying normal brown eggs since about 6 months up until the last 3 or 4 months. Her eggs are either white, almost opaque looking, or shell-less, or have calcium deposits on them. They are not normal anymore. At one point, I thought she was egg-bound and gave...

Hi friends! Yesterday I got my first ever egg from one of my 4 girls. I was sad to not know which one it was but I caught my SF dropping an egg about a half hour ago. She was acting strange all day. She was running back and forth like she was trying to find a place all morning and then she...

Need advice on how to make nesting box more appealing

Thank you so much! When they were chicks, I thought repurposing those feeding buckets would be a great idea...now that they are full grown, I'm thinking no because they seem too small now for my girls. Do you have any other suggestions about replacing the buckets with something else? Should I...

    Feeding layer at 19 weeks?

I am raising my 1st small flock and I have enough grower to get me through this week. My chickens will be 19 weeks on the 26th. Can I start them on layer a week early? I feed them scratch and peck feed and they recommend starting layer at 20 weeks. I hate to buy another bag of grower for just 1...

    Picking and Isolation

I have my first chicks. Four 8 week old chickens, BA, SF, LO, SS. My 8 week old Black Australorp is picking my Salmon Favorelle's back until it was bloody. I separated the SF for 1 night to give her a rest and then I sprayed Scarlex on her back and put no-pick cover up lotion on her so she could...

Thanks for the advice! I have them on Scratch and Peck starter(20.5% protein)...it says to leave them on that until 8 weeks and then switch them to grower, which has 17% protein. I have a dust bath box for them in the run and right now the LO and SS are in that together hanging out. The SF is...

Gender identity for 4 different breeds at 7 weeks old?

Yes, SueT. I bought them as day old chicks as females but I understand there is room for error on sexing chicks. The place I bought them from has a guarantee on sexing but I have read that they still can make mistakes :(
