I know what you mean- even though no birds here yet! The shed-to-coop conversion has been put off til the fall, but my number of birds keeeps going up! I decided to charge chicken intrest for the delay! And, although DH seems to be anti-chicken, (his mantra is Happy wife, happy life, thank...
Well, catdaddy, I have to do what's necessary!! I figured I would just up it to twenty! Here at the First Chicken Bank, we will acquire what we can!
I just told DH that he's lucky, my coop could easily house 32 birds!!
Thanks for the responses, guys... I know that it is better this way, in the long run. Still bummed out about the wait, though. I was thinking about just throwing something together, but I really want to get it done the way I want it, so I don't have to disrupt the flock to "remodel" later...
Well, I am posting this to half vent, half whine... I apologize in advance.
After two years of hinting, DH finally decided to hop on the chicken-mobile. I drew up my shed renovation plans, planned and replanned my flock, picked out feeding, watering, etc. stuff, and my day-old ship date...

Oh, how I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this rule. I will remember this ALWAYS!!
AND, you sneaky, tricky, half-truth telling villains!!
I am taking notes... Good luck with all your chicks!!!
I think that this is horrible. It's one thing to use dye as a "marker" system for breeders, and another to use baby chick fluff as "packaging" used to market a living, breathing animal to the public.
I have also seen fish sold like this. (not comparing the two)
How many birds are you talking about, and how long will it be between the plucking/gutting?
(edited to add)
SORRY! Missed that part! I would definetly clean them out while they are warm. I think it's better safe than sorry!!
For crying out loud!! I just read thru all 6 pages for..... ZILTCH!!
I think its got 3, but I've never seen a 3-yolker, so
HOW MANY??? WE NEED TO KNOW!!!
I have read that some people who use newspaper for the first few weeks spray it lightly with water first, and let it dry before putting it down in the brooder. It supposedly makes it less slippery. I think I might try it when my chicks arrive. If it doesn't work, I can always toss in some...
OMG, do all husbands share this way of thinking?? Mine just said yesterday, hey , I found this portable shower thing and it heats the water! ???????????? We have a camp with plumbing!!! And a water heater!!!!
That being said, if you could find one for cheap/trade on CL or something, and...
I'm in PA, and YES! this is funny to me!! It was 8 degrees here this AM. Batten down! Actually, we are expecting some big snow today, but where I am, we either get all or nothing!
I am so jealous of your "6 week winter"!
This is the biggest reason for me to not free range my birds (when they get here). I'm not a germ-a-phobic, but I really can't bear the thought of my kids playing in the yard when there's chicken poop everywhere! I think I'd rather do the extra work and build a huge run, and "bring" as much...
