    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I don't think (Ted) Oldfather mixes grains anymore. I could be wrong, but last time I asked around, it seemed like a dead end. And yes, he's got the big farm on SR 114.

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

They have a great selection of chicks because the girl who does their buying has her own flock. Apparently last year her boss was not entirely happy with all the breeds, etc. lol Not sure other stores would have the same selection. I know a couple years back their selection was worse then...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I believe I posted before on the old thread, but another Northern Indiana resident here. I do more "trolling" than posting. I have approx. 25 chickens. All different breeds (I like to experiment). Winter so far has been OK. Our coop is pretty well insulated, but one of my roos did...

OK, new birds in the freezer...now how do I eat them?!?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! My daughter (who is 9) has already been asking for some chicken dinners so she obviously has no problem with it. I just didn't want to cook it up and then think about too much, kwim?

I need a processor in Indiana

I just used Hyatt's in Rochester, IN. That's pretty much the farthest south one I know of. The other's, like Martin's, are up around Goshen/Napannee.

OK, new birds in the freezer...now how do I eat them?!?

So we just had 8 of our "extra" cockerels butchered (mainly EE's) for the first time and they actually looked pretty decent (they were around 20wks old). I have them whole and have cooked whole chickens in the past, but am wondering how do I get past the fact that these were 'ours'? I thought...

Extra EE's for meat? Is it worth it?

I have 8 EE cockerels I was planning on bringing to a processor to use as meat birds. They will be around 18 weeks old. They look pretty small to me still so I was wondering if it was worth it? Would their meat be "tasty"? How much weight-wise would they way (dressed) at this age? Thanks!

My chicken is not eating and having this yellow diarrhea. I AM IN NEED OF SERIOUS HELP.

Have you looked into egg yolk peritonitis? There's a lot of info on this site about it. One of my chickens had it recently and her poop looked just like the picture you posted. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can really do for it.

Swollen bottom, but not egg bound? *UPDATE-we had to put her down-EYP*

Speckledhen, I had actually read through all of your posts before. Of course, when it's your first time going through it, it's so hard to figure out what's right and wrong (or if anything is wrong in the first place!). I really appreciate the fact that you've taken so much time to record all...

Swollen bottom, but not egg bound? *UPDATE-we had to put her down-EYP*

Just to update, we put our hen down last Sunday. her comb and wattles turned purple and her breathing was very labored. It was 5 days from the time I first noticed symptoms. I believe that she had egg yolk peritonitis. Thanks everyone for your help!

Swollen bottom, but not egg bound? *UPDATE-we had to put her down-EYP*

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! She just had a bowel movement on my porch . Here's some pictures. The yellow parts are basically the color of egg yolk. Not sure what the green "nuggets" are.

Swollen bottom, but not egg bound? *UPDATE-we had to put her down-EYP*

I have been checking her poop daily and haven't seen any sign of worms. And she does look good otherwise, although my 8 yo daughter said she looked "beefy", lol.

I suppose peritonitis isn't out of the question...will see what else I can find out about it...

Swollen bottom, but not egg bound? *UPDATE-we had to put her down-EYP*

I know she was laying as of last week (by the number of eggs I was getting/day). I have been down 1 egg each day this week. I'm stumped. If she had worms, wouldn't the other birds have them too? I think I will at least try and take a stool sample to the vet in the morning (assuming they can...

Here's some pictures. No, she doesn't look pale and all other 8 flock mates are fine. Also, this came on overnight. One day she was fine, the next day this. Full body pic Poop picture

Swollen bottom, but not egg bound? *UPDATE-we had to put her down-EYP*

My year-old BSL has had runny (green/yellowish) poop and a floppy comb all week. I finally was able to grab hold of one of the other BSL's for comparison and the sick hen has a really large, swollen bottom (easily 3x bigger). She has not been near the nest and I couldn't feel anything that...

Floppy comb, runny poo, lethargic hen...Help?

She has the same access to water that the other girls do, so I don't think it would be dehydration...
