    Unusual behavior from mallard drake?

I agree that the male is trying to defend his lady friend in the first video. My males all do the "whistle" in the second video, too. I have mallards, mallard-call crosses and calls. I don't know what the official name for that behavior is but they will do that when they're excited and...

    Duck Bachelor Pad

I am so glad I invested the time to make this new area. They are just so much calmer and there is no more fighting! Thank goodness. :) Lovesgliders, I had the same problem. Plenty of people wanted the boys to "let them free" or eat them! I had quite an email discussion with one guy who was...

    Duck Bachelor Pad

My boys were fighting like mad over the girls this spring. I found out that no one really wants a bunch of drakes when I tried to give the extras away. Instead, I decided to separate the boys into their own bachelor pad. After 2 1/2 days of work, the boys are separated from the girls and...

    I have killer ducks!!

Ugh, mine have testosterone poisoning, too. I have to keep separating one of my Mallard males away from his brothers because he is just RELENTLESS and beats them up. It's getting very old. Please, someone, tell me it will get better when breeding season is over.

    Mallard - Call Cross Drakes

I also have this Call male. He is not show standard by any means. He is a pet. The mallards are beating him up and he needs a new home! His feathers are currently quite rumpled up, poor guy. I separated him this morning. To a good home only.

    Mallard - Call Cross Drakes

I have two boys that need a new home. They are 8 months old, born June 21, 2011. They are the offspring of my little Mallard hen and her husband, a white Call duck drake. They have clipped wings and should go to a home where they can be protected from predators. They would prefer to go to a...

    "Call" duck with funny color

Alicia, that's a handsome ducky! And everyone else, I agree it would be interesting to breed him to see what occurred, but I'm not sure what color to cross him with. His sister is the female version of him--very pretty. Her name is Pearl and she's got basically the same markings but is grey...

    "Call" duck with funny color

...duck colors. Someone told me at one point that Hattie was a "Mallard Pied" Call duck. These are Mark's biological parents: Hattie and Roger in November by elizabeth's*whimsies, on Flickr I have more pictures of Hattie (his mom) that are bigger/better and other views, too, if that's helpful.

    "Call" duck with funny color

His Mama is a Mallard Pied. His daddy is all white with a tiny black spot on his head. He was hatched by an actual Mallard, though! And he thinks she's his Mama!

    "Call" duck with funny color

...but it's a boy and his name is Mark. I thought some of you might like to see how he turned out. Baby pictures: 4 weeks: Checkers by elizabeth's*whimsies, on Flickr at 7 weeks: Pearl and Mary by elizabeth's*whimsies, on Flickr at 9 weeks: Mark by elizabeth's*whimsies, on Flickr 5...

    Indoor duck pond help

Hattie, where did you get your pond? I am thinking of building my ducks a nice area like that next spring. I am tired of dumping kiddie pools. Also, did it come with the drain installed already or did you have to install it? Thanks!

    In the coop

My ducks live on shavings in the summer and in the winter I add straw or old hay on top to make it warmer. They seem to really enjoy the straw or hay in the cooler weather. I put a very thick layer in their duck coop and they snuggle right down in. I'm sure they'd love it in the summer...

I need some advice for my duck

My female Call was VERY lame for the majority of the spring, but with ample swimming time, she has recovered to about 95% function. She still limps a little bit when she first gets up, but overall does fine. She's happy as can be, too. I did not feel any breaks in her legs and in fact x-rayed...

What color are these call ducks?

Boggy Bottoms Bantams, I think you are right. I think Mary is a Mark! I'll give him/her a little more time to mature, but I just went out and scooped him/her up and there was no loud quacking! There was a lot of boy-sounding noises!!! That makes 4 out of 5 of this group that hatched BOYS...

What color are these call ducks?

Thanks again! I'll definitely keep you posted. I'll go pick Mary up again sometime this weekend and make sure she's quacking. Pearl definitely is--she let out a very good one today when I arrived with watermelon.
