    Impacted Crop for a week

I left grit for her and started to give her more food. Surprisingly, she's eager to eat even though she doesn't eat a lot at a time. I see more poop now, too. I'm giving her wet feed and Greek yogurt as well as the medication for yeast infection (Monastat 7). Her crop was noticeably smaller...

    Impacted Crop for a week

Thank you. What do you mean by thin mash and probiotic tablet? mash of chicken food? Can I give probiotic tablets for humans or is there something for chickens? Should I have given her food during impacted crop? I did give some but only 2 tsp-full a day. She was eager to eat for the fist 3-5...

    Impacted Crop for a week

Thank you for your reply. Today her crop feels noticeably soft same squash. The size is like a ping pong ball or less. So maybe impacted crop is over and sour crop is happening now. I've read your thread about sour crop. I guess I still shouldn't give her food. I hope she get better before she...

    Impacted Crop for a week

My Light Sussex hen has been dealing with an impacted crop for about a week. The crop was big and hard at first, but now it’s a bit smaller. However, I’m worried about her stamina since I’ve only been giving her about 2 tsp of food per day (unsweetened applesauce, meat broth, Greek yogurt, or...

Is Clotrimazole 1% anti-fungal orally for sour crop OK?

Thank you for your reply. I gave the topical cream twice mixed with scrambled eggs the first day and the second day I got Monistat 7 and gave it to her the same way. Her crop was much better already on the morning of the second day possibly thanks to the topical cream, and by the third day...

Is Clotrimazole 1% anti-fungal orally for sour crop OK?

Thank you. The person in the article uses vaginal cream so I wasn't sure if I could use a topical one. Also, I'm not sure how much to use as the topical cream seems stronger than the vaginal one, which has 50mg of clotrimazole in one application. Anyways, I just mixed a bit(?) of the topical...

Can I use Clotrimazole 1% Topical for sour crop?

I know people use vaginal cream to treat sour crop but I'm wondering if I could use topical cream instead. It has the same clotrimazole.

Replacing the roof. Too much ventilation for 4'X4' coop?

7 sq foot of ventilation would be almost half the surface of the 4' X 4' perch area. It sounds like too much, but at least I now know that the vent long the roof ridge is not too much. Maybe I'll keep the extra ventilation space next to the roof ridge then.

Replacing the roof. Too much ventilation for 4'X4' coop?

The roosting section is open to the 4' X 6' lower section of the coop 24/7. So are you saying that it's better not to block the notched space on the gable ends next to the roof ridge?

Replacing the roof. Too much ventilation for 4'X4' coop?

My coop for seven hens consists of two parts with different heights. The lower part, which contains nesting bins, measures 4' x 6', and the higher part, with perches, measures 4' x 4'. Both sections are 3' high, but the perch area is elevated on legs. The 4' x 4' section, used for sleeping...

One chicken keeps laying broken eggs

Yes. I've been keeping her in a separate coop and let her hang out with others when free ranging. Also I've feeding her extra protein. Less stress and eating well seemed to work because her eggs started to get better. Then she stopped laying and went broody, then started molting. She's still a...

One chicken keeps laying broken eggs

Thank you very much for the info. I lost a chicken a week ago and her breathing was laborious on and off for over a month. I wonder if she had the same thing. There's another chicken that seem to have been not laying for a long time. I'll keep an eye on her. I separated the bottom chicken as...

One chicken keeps laying broken eggs

I started to see a broken egg quite often inside or outside the nesting box since a few weeks ago. It looked like one or more chickens kept kicking an egg out the nesting box too. I thought somebody was pecking an egg or kicking eggs and bedding around so hard that the eggs break. However, it...

Is my chicken choking now? Emergency! help please.

She died a few days ago. She seemed to have gotten better for a few weeks but she got slightly worse again. I thought it was gape worm again because she possibly spat some of the medicine I gave her the first time. I separated her again and she breathed better but then she died within a few...

    Is Respiratory infection life long?

That's true. I need to know what I'll be dealing with with the rest of the flock. Thank you for your comment. I feel less worried. I just keep kicking myself for not doing enough for the one I just lost but I need to think about other ones, too.
