Thank you for all of the advice. I decided to intervene & it still died. :-( Then, today I got home from work & 2 of 3 pipped eggs under my broody hen had died from being shrink wrapped. After seeing the difference (what I THOUGHT was shrink wrapped yesterday wasn't, the outer membrane is just...
Thank you! I'm definitely doing some research before I undertake this endeavor. I haven't even decided IF I'm going to help it yet. :-/ I'll keep you posted!
Apparently, I can't upload pics right now. The membrane is white. It's the outer membrane, though, not the inner membrane. & there was movement just now! Can they still move if they're shrink wrapped?
I peeled a bit of the shell back, there is still peeping from inside, but it's quieter. If I decide to help it out, what's the best way? This is what it looks like:
I have a pipped egg in my still air styrofoam incubator. I was going to go into lockdown tomorrow, & I dry incubate, so there was very low humidity in the incubator when the chick pipped. There's occasional peeping that sounds good & strong. I've got the humidity up around 80% now & the temp is...

We have d'Anver eggs that will be hatching Saturday. Dad is a quail, mama is a porceline. I'm wondering what color the chicks will be? We're hatching Old English Wheatons at the same time & I want to be sure I know which chicks are which (they're under a surrogate broody, so we won't be able to...
I have a six week old guinea hen that started limping & now she's not walking well. I've separated her from the other four (very healthy) guinea hens. It's as if she is walking on her "elbows". Her leg color has become a greyish color. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance!
I think it's great! We had a Porceline Bearded d'Anver hen hatch some Jersey Giant chicks. Unfortunately, of the 2 that hatched, only 1 survived, but she is a fierce & protective mama. Cracks me up because the chick will quickly be bigger than her! I'd be surprised if she weighs a pound! Lol...
I can't offer any advice except that if she does take them, having a broody hen for your chicks is awesome! We just had our first broodies hatch last week & it's nice not having to have the heat lamp & a mama showing them how to be a chicken! ;-)
I'm completely enchanted with the "Broody Hen". So much so, I'm probably going to get some silkies & eventually work my way up to a breeding program (in baby steps). It's a twofold bonus: I get broody hens, we get a Silkie breeder in the area. & I love breeding chickens!!!!!
I had a (sealed) jar of water as a heat sync & temps stayed pretty stable. I did dry incubation as well. The incubator is an LG & I have a turner. I took a few days in the very beginning to stabilize the temp with & without an incubator, before I received the eggs. Still, I'm sure one egg is...
Our new babies! Jersey Giants hatched from shipped eggs under a dAnver! I'm in love!!!! On the left is Sparkles (or Sparky) & on the right is Callie (or Spike).
I'm trying to load pics, but 2 of 4 eggs hatched today! Two (that were under the hen) quit, but 50% of the eggs from under the hen hatched! I'd say that's pretty good!
