I have a Paint Silkie hen who has several crusty raised lumps under her beak on her chin. They almost seem like pox, but she has no more places anywhere, and nobody else is affected. Any ideas as to what it might be?
I have a 3 month old chick in my grow out pen who started sneezing and coughing this morning. Her eyes are clear and there is nothing coming from her nose. I immediately isolated her and started her on Tetracycline Hydrocloride. My question is this: should I treat everyone in the pen, even...
I just purchased a heavily feathered Cochin hen that has a badly swollen, red, irritated vent area. There is no foul odor, and from what I have read, if it were vent gleet, there would be an awful smell. I don't know what giving her molasses will do to her system. It is very hot here, and I am...
Thanks for all your input. I have a bird at the state poultry lab right now to see if they can determine the cause of death. I justified each death in some way until (duh!) the lightbulb went on and I saw that there was a pattern. Hindsight is 20/20! No symptoms, just general wasting away. My...
I have been trying to start a quality Silkie flock, and have had nothing but heartache with the breed. I am thinking of adding Cochins to my little operation, but do Not want another breed that is delicate. Your input would be appreciated!
I have a hen who always has this poop. She has a normal cecal poop, but then the rest looks like this.
She has been wormed and treated for coccidia, and is fed Purina flight conditioned, oyster shells and greens and fruit. Any help would be appreciated!
Wow! thanks! He is already very thin, and although I have been feeding the best feed (Purina Flight Conditioner 19%) and supplement with greens, BOSS, and Rooster Booster's probiotic/vitamin/electrolyte product Every day in their water during this hot weather, he has continued to lose weight. No...
My little blue chick recovered completely; however, another of the three is Down. Alert, eating, but cannot stand and lies with a wing and a leg outstretched. I have read that this is a symptom of Mareck's disease. If, indeed, this is the case, WHERE IN THE WORLD DID IT COME FROM? These are...
Thanks so much for answering my "call"! Even though they are on medicated feed, I put them on Corid this afternoon. I hope that this helps! I hate to lose one, and although it happens to us rarely, I know that it happens. I just hate it so much if it is something that I could have prevented...
Just found out that dosage for powdered Corid is WRONG. I have been using myself and lost 2 Silkie hens as a result! Correct dosage is 2full teaspoons/gallon of water for treatment, and 1 1/2 tsp for maintenance FYI
I just went out to the little grow out pen where I have 3 two month old Ameraucauna chicks that I hatched myself from my own eggs. My largest, has pea green diarrhea and is fluffed up and unsteady on his feet...When he moves at all. When he does move, it's as though he doesn't know where he is...
I have month old Silkie chicks running around the coop with Mama, Daddy, and relatives. I need to do a routine worming with Corid in their drinking water. Is it safe for my chicks to drink? Please let me know ASAP
