I purchased two muscovy ducklings from someone who believed they were sex-linked chocolate because they were born to a black hen. One of the ducklings is definitely appearing male now at 8 weeks (he's just SLIGHTLY larger so not really sure yet, but I'll try to vent sex) I'm really worried...
The weather finally held up so we put our two 8 week old goslings outside in their new pen. Plenty of grass, a nice big XL dog house and all of their toys are out there but they keep pacing and looking for us. Should I lock them in their house tonight? The run is wrapped in hardware cloth but...
How watery is TOO watery for gosling poop? They are on Kalmbach duck & goose and it's since gotten a bit firmer since switching from flock raiser crumbles but most of the time it's straight wet butt explosions (for lack of a better description LOL) It looks almost exactly like their crumbles...
thank you! It seems to be the result of picking on our end too. I opened up the old duck coop as a secondary roost for them and I'm going to winterize it a bit so they have some more room. I think it's the space plus boredom due to the weather/lack of daylight. Hopeful they can make it...
This isn't my photo but this is what the other two basically look like, just a smaller area than demonstrated in this picture (PICTURE SHARED FROM: http://backyardchickenlady.blogspot.com/2014/10/molting-seasonim-collecting-more.html)
Last month I noticed two of my BO hens had some bare bums. I took a closer look and the bums were completely pecked clear but no signs of mites/lice anywhere on them. All of the other feathers looked in tact so thought maybe some bullying at night (no bullying noted during the day) or maybe...
Thank you! I am surprised too! She is the one that I originally thought was a rooster because she has a GIGANTIC comb...guess she proved me wrong :p I'm sure the others will follow suit soon. She already has a favorite nesting box, so cute lol
My buff Orpington just started laying (wooo!) she started around 18 weeks and is now 20 weeks old. She was laying cute little perfect eggs once a day but now she will go a day inbetween at random intervals. Is this normal? These are my first chickens so not sure what to expect! I’ve only had...
Very true! I’m not sure. I assumed they were all the same age since I ordered them as day old chicks from Cackle Hatchery. They did throw in a few extras, could she be some type of mix or maybe just a genetic thing? Not sure.
Thanks for all of your help and discussion! Sure is fun trying to...
Agreed! She looks so much like a rooster in front 🤣 poor girl may be confused or is just a Roo with very late blooming tail/saddle feathers. I have seen some RIR pullets with rather large combs and wattles* so I am still hopeful!
Hoping she’s just a well-endowed pullet in the facial area 😂! She/he is stunning! I would really love to keep her. She has always been the most friendly and comical of the bunch. We can’t have roosters where we live, unfortunately. Every day I check the nesting box anxiously!
The mystery continues! Really hoping for a nice egg in the bin soon! That will tell me for sure! ...or a cock-a-doodle-doo and a very peeved neighbor Haha
