Buff Orpington Laying Habits

My buff Orpington just started laying (wooo!) she started around 18 weeks and is now 20 weeks old. She was laying cute little perfect eggs once a day but now she will go a day inbetween at random intervals. Is this normal? These are my first chickens so not sure what to expect! I’ve only had ducks before who were random interval layers. Want to make sure I’m doing everything right. They are on layer pellets and have oyster shell out to snack on but no one seems to bother with it. Thanks!

Mine tend to lay 3-5 days a week for a few weeks than they take a few weeks off before resuming again at some point.

Totally normal. They will take days off. It sounds like you're doing great and I'm impressed she started laying so young. I have 3 orpington pullets who haven't started at 22 weeks now.

Being an orp, be ready for her to go broody at some point. They seem to enjoy that.

Thank you! I am surprised too! She is the one that I originally thought was a rooster because she has a GIGANTIC comb...guess she proved me wrong I'm sure the others will follow suit soon. She already has a favorite nesting box, so cute lol
