Thanks so much @BarnyardChaos! I knew my question would be answered in no time here

    Strange Egg

Anybody have any idea what this is? I went to check eggs tonight and found it in the nesting box. My chickens haven’t laid much in quite some time due to an over crowding issue. I finally have that fixed. Never seen anything like this in my couple years of chicken raising. Thanks

    Cornish Cross Dying

I appreciate all yalls replies in trying to help me diagnose. Yes, just finished butchering what was left and confirmed via yellow fluid in the bellies. I’ve read some of the causes online, but don’t know what’s applicable since it never happened to me before. This was a new to me hatchery. Is...

    Cornish Cross Dying

Ok, I finally found an old thread that describes what is happening with my chickens. According to that thread it is ascites. We ended up losing another one today and have two more that look like they are on the way out. I’m trying to search to see if it’s safe to eat them with this now

    Cornish Cross Dying

Not underweight. The last one (yesterday) actually looked ready to butcher in both development and weight. I haven’t looked at the organs of any of them yet. Anything in particular you would suggest looking for?

    Cornish Cross Dying

Here is the pre death position each bird has gotten in to. They will stay like this for hours with minimal response to talking, poking, prodding, etc. I’m guessing this is the same one from this AM and expect it to be gone tonight

    Cornish Cross Dying

Thanks again Kiki! In the past we have taken them to 7-8 weeks, but I think we’re going to butcher on Saturday just to minimize any more losses. Hopefully the corid will prove to be the fix and yesterdays loss was just a fluke. I’ll update this thread with the results of how many we do or don’t...

    Cornish Cross Dying

They Are also moved to fresh grass every morning. We have not received any rain since the chickens have arrived until this past Thursday so it’s been very dry with nothing wet in the tractor

    Cornish Cross Dying

When I went out to take pics the bird that was showing symptoms was not laying there anymore. I still suspect he will be gone by this afternoon. This is the food we have used every time we’ve raised meat birds. We give a chick starter/grower for the first couple weeks and then finish out on...

    Cornish Cross Dying

Yes they are drinking it. About 5 gallons made fresh each day. It’s the only water in the tractor. I’ll get some pics and videos on a few minutes.

    Cornish Cross Dying

Well, we are on day 5 of the corid treatment and the deaths have seemed to continue. We had one due yesterday, and another that appears to have the same symptoms as the rest of them today

    Cornish Cross Dying

Thanks for your help. I didn’t know if it was cocci, but that was the only thing I read about taking out meat birds in a similar fashion. I’ll report back if it helps or not. Is 5 days of treatment what’s required or would you do more?

    Cornish Cross Dying

Kiki, I have the liquid. I wasn’t sure on dosing, but saw someone mention 2 tsp per gallon of water so that’s what I’ve been doing. I did read that the vitamins and corid cancel each other due to this site. I haven’t tried separating any and giving vitamins since I started the medication. The...

    Cornish Cross Dying

They are actually on day 3 of being treated with corid. I didn’t see anything that screamed cocci to me, but figured I’d treat them with it just in case that was the case. The poops look pretty normal, but some do have a pink streak through them. It’s raining right now, but I can go inspect...

    Cornish Cross Dying

Looking to see if anyone can help me figure out what’s happening with my most recent batch of Cornish cross. We’ve been raising meat birds for the last couple years. This fall, I ordered a batch of 40 and they came the first week of October. I raised these differently than I have in the past. I...

    LEM Chicken Plucker

Anyone tried LEM brand plucker? I’ve been searching for one to get and like everything else I have from this brand. Was just curious if there is any kind of reliable reviews on the plucker

Ideas? Forage Seeds in Grassy Area

I have done something similar in our backyard with a spot that is .25-.5 acres roughly. I did disk the ground in the summer and planted a mix of buckwheat, sunflowers, and iron clay peas. I then went through without disking a couple weeks ago and spread a mixture of wheat, rye grain, crimson...

    Dominique pullets or cockerels?

That’s what I was afraid of! There may be one more that I missed, but the ratio did not swing in my favor! Thanks for the help everyone. These are almost 5 weeks old

    Dominique pullets or cockerels?

I got 5 straight run Dominiques from Cackle hatchery a few weeks back. I assume the ones with the bigger, redder combs are the males, right? Or am I completely off base?
