introducing new ducks into a small group

Hi! Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. Hopefully you're already finding, like I did, that with a little time the ducks and drakes start to be more tolerant of each other. Early on I gave them space apart from each other. Only for a week. Every now and then one of the drakes chases one of...

introducing new ducks into a small group

Thanks for your quick reply. I don't know if I can manage any more ducks! My fully closed enclosure is only 4' x 5' with an attached 8'x5' hardware cloth screened run. The trio was a peaceful group until I introduced these 2 new girls. Now only the original girl gets along with all. The...

introducing new ducks into a small group

Hi! I recently bought 2 more ducks to add to my group as my original 3 ducklings grew up to be 2 drakes and 1 duck. All 5 are close in age about 4 months. I'm surprised that the drakes are giving the new girls so much trouble. The drakes are chasing the new girls and biting their necks. Should...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello! Today I got 2 ducks to add to my flock. 2 more girls so I have 3 girls and 2 boys. The new girls are sweet and scared. Unfortunately the boys are attacking the girls anytime they are near each other. They back the girls in a corner and pull at their necks. The new girls are as big as...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I found the listing on craigslist, but the man, Jerry, has an organic farm in Delavan WI, bella goat farm. Between Elkhorn and Janesville. He is looking to rehome 10 of his blue swede ducks. If you're interested and can't find the listing I can give you his email.

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi Amyable, I think we are little over 2 hours apart. However, I have been talking to a farmer about an hour from me who has 10 blue swede ducks he needs to rehome. He has a pair I can have. We're supposed to meet next week. Thank you for considering splitting your group up! Liz

Do you need to sell them as a group? 2 ducks I could swing without discussing with the husband. If I came home with 5 more he might divorce me!

@cuties I would be interested in getting in touch with TerriO. She can email me at [email protected] Do Muscovy ducks have special needs different from mallards and swedes? I remember that their incubation time is shorter, but do they have any other special environment or feed needs?

Hi my fellow Wisconsin duck lovers. I'm new to owning ducks. I fell into it accidentally :) I have 2 14 week drake mallards and one 14 week old blue swede mutt duck. I believe that I need more ducks to keep my girl safe. Any ideas how to find ducks to add to my flock? The boys are such...

Accidental duck momma needs help with hatching

@Lacrystol I am so sorry to hear that you lost a duckling. It does seem wrong that waterfowl would drown so easily. Hugs to you!

Chicagoland- six month female pekin house duck

I'm sorry for your friends loss. That is terrible! If the surviving duck turns out to be a girl let me know I would be interested in adding it to my flock.

Chicagoland- six month female pekin house duck

Did you re-home your pekin duck? I ask because my 4 month old ducklings are looking like 2 drakes and 1 duck. I think we may need a better female to male ratio. I live in Waukesha, WI. Thanks, Liz

Duckling born with weak right leg. 5 days old now, some improvement but still much weaker. ADVICE?

@Amiga Thank you for your advice and encouragement when I was struggling with how to help my disabled duck. I may have been compassionate to my special duck and I gave him extra support, but he brought my family and I so much joy, love and fun. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Accidental duck momma needs help with hatching

Update on my duck with the weak right leg. Despite vitamins, supplements, probiotics, splints, vet wrap, and physical therapy he only ever had minimal use of his leg. When his foot was splinted with a small plastic triangle and tape he could put weight on it and get around faster. He did start...

15 hour old Duckling hatched with weak right leg- cannot walk

Update 8/24/14 last week my disabled duck died suddenly. (The one on the left in the picture) We're not sure exactly what happened. My husband and daughter were outside and 20 minutes after the duck went in the pool they found him dead. He had stacked rocks and ramps to get out of the pool and...
