15 hour old Duckling hatched with weak right leg- cannot walk

A number of duck folks use the B complex, and while Storey's Guide specifies niacin, from what I have read over the last four or five years, other B vitamins are involved in - or can be involved in - leg issues. Some use brewer's yeast but that's a little iffier on dosage. @jenniemig used several things with her special ducklings, you may want to check in with her or do a search for her threads.

So, there is something called perosis. It is a problem with ligaments and joints. And I believe that if you start early enough, with good nutrition and sometimes bracing, things can work out pretty well. But early intervention makes all the difference - and that is what you are doing!

So I don't always picture things well, so I won't pretend to know exactly what kind of bracing or wrapping the duckling might need, if any. Vet wrap is nice, you probably know, since it flexes but can provide support. I always am concerned about wrapping too tightly and cutting circulation. I also like letting them float in warm water for a bit - maybe 5 or 10 minutes - to increase circulation, take weight off the leg, and build muscle. Especially ducklings, and I think you know this already, cannot be left alone in water.

Thank you @Amiga for your help. I had the duckling with the weak right leg in warm water twice today for 10 minutes each time. After the baths I gently extended the leg backward and was able to straighten the leg more than ever before. I took vet wrap and wrapped the joint. Ducky wasn't happy during the leg extension, but he calms down quick and is bearing weight on the right leg more often.
I work long hours this weekend, but I hope to do this with him at least once a day this weekend. Again, thanks for the advice!

@LizD1, great news, thanks for the update! Ducks can bounce back against all kinds of difficulty if we can figure out how best to support them.

Update 8/24/14 last week my disabled duck died suddenly. (The one on the left in the picture) We're not sure exactly what happened. My husband and daughter were outside and 20 minutes after the duck went in the pool they found him dead. He had stacked rocks and ramps to get out of the pool and he had started to be able to fly. I loved every minute of the 11 weeks we had with him. Thanks for all the help and advice.
