    Egg in an egg

After all that hard work it was time for a rest. Poor girl. I should have taken a picture of it in my hand so you could see actually how large it was. I wish I knew which hen lay it. I have a lot of chickens and there is almost always a different hen on the nest when I go out there to check...

    Egg in an egg

Thanks. I am hoping that she lays one that is intact. The outer egg is so large though, I am not sure that she can. Then, what would I do with it? lol

    Egg in an egg

Today I got my third egg in an egg. The outside egg is HUGE. Almost the size of of a goose egg. It has always been broken. The inside egg is a normal sized egg. Has anyone ever heard of that happening before? The first picture is with one of my regular sized eggs next to it. The 2nd picture I...

I need advice on dealing with a big fat murderous raccoon!

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. I would go with the shotgun. I have used it successfully in the past. I have also used live traps on occasion. I don't recommend poison.

    Mealworm farming

I was wondering if anyone has used rice bran instead of wheat bran? I have lots of rice bran (which my chickens love) and was wondering if it would work as well as the wheat bran.

Will a single/only buck get mean?

We had a white male, not sure of the breed, but he never got mean or aggressive. We didn't keep him in the house. He had a pen outside. He eventually too big to hold, but every time we went out there, he was more than ready for us to love on him. We had him until he died at a very old age.

Welcome. Glad to have a Louisiana neighbor. I know about the hawks and owls. We used to have a problem with that as well.

And the wait begins week 2 out of 3 oh no!

I just candled the eggs that I put in on December 28. Of the 29 that I have in there, I don't see anything in 5 of them. One I am not sure about. And one is from an EE and I can't see through the green shell. The 22 others were swimming around in there. I was worried because my power went out...

I need a bator that will hold it's temp very well, which one?

I have a Hovabator 1602 with an automatic turner and it does very well at holding a constant temperature. I have been well pleased with it. I have it on a small table I set up in the dining room so it isn't near a door or window. Good luck and happy hatching.
