NanaKat,
Thanks for that recipe! Sounds simple and I can eat my weight in pickled okra! LOL! I didn't plant any okra this year, but will save this recipe for next year.
All my birds made it through the night with no new symptoms. I'll dose them again, tomorrow, with more LA-200. Thanks...
Thanks for the support, y'all. I think the dark Cornish were the only large fowl. The rest were OEGB, MG bantams, and bantam partridge Wyandottes.
Everyone survived the injections, so that's good! No one else is showing any symptoms. I lost the one Cornish cockerel and then culled a MG...
Thanks everyone. This was too sudden to be from stress from moving to a new home. I lost one Cornish and culled a Modern Game. Shouldn't have lost a half grown bird in 24 hours if there was nothing wrong with it! This was the one that started coughing by yesterday afternoon.
He wouldn't take...
Well, the "healthy birds" I got 2 days ago already has a casualty. 4 month old birds don't drop dead if something isn't going on. Especially since they are inside my house in quarantine! It was the one I was planning on culling today.
My 16 yo daughter dropped the brand new bottle of LA-200 I...
Ok...I got the LA200. As far as dosage, how exact does it have to be? The modern games are young, and just starting to get their birchen color on the females. I have tuberculin syringes that I can get the dosage pretty small, but some are no bigger bodywise, than a little swallow. The cockerel...
I really appreciate the quick and informative responses! I am really hoping that's all it is and I am headed to TSC to pick up some medicine. One of my "Nosy Nellie" hens just figured out how to get in there, so she's trapped and I'm waiting to see what happens. She's one of the few that know...
I need some help, fellow Okies!!! I bought some bird from a guy in Wagoner yesterday. He wasn't there, but his wife was. I'd been emailing and talking with him for some time. I picked up 8 dark Cornish and 4 birchen Modern Games. I get them home, and notice one of the MG was a little "sleepy"...
So, there is no way it could be a simple respiratory thing? I'm getting ready to cull them, but want to be sure. My DH suggested moving them to another part of the property, but I hate to do that, in case it is really bad. What IS it??
Shelly
Well, I just called the guy. There's nothing wrong with his birds, they're all healthy. He doesn't want them back, but he doesn't want me to cull them. He said he'd talk to his wife. Whatever. Is this something that I should call the state about? I've never had to deal with anything like...
I just got these chicks yesterday. They are about 8 week old Modern games. I get them home and settled into their temporary home and notice that one of them sneezed and water-like droplets sprayed everywhere. Wonderful. I've never had any birds that might be contagious before. There's no odor...
Woohoo! Just talked to a guy a few towns over, and I'm picking up some SQ dark Cornish and some SQ modern games tomorrow! I can't wait! They're just chicks, so they'll be showable by the spring show!
I've been popping in and out, but things have been hectic here with school and football...

Hey! I have a polish/glw hen that looks just like her! Her name is Polly Pullet (even though she's a hen now!). Aren't they adorable?? They could be sisters!

LOVE this one! I'm going to borrow that one to make my own sign with! I have a metal sign that says, "No trespassing. Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again!"

I had to deal with this on a goose of mine, but it was all over. I'd worry that her crop is ruptured, as well. The main thing that I found helped deflating the sub Q emphysema was using a larger gauge needle. I was trying to use a smaller one to keep it comfortable, and it closed up too quickly...
Just think of it like you went out of town, left your kids at grandma's and she let them eat junk food all weekend. Not great, not the best choice, but they'll live!
Maybe next time, be more specific with what you want fed. Most people think chickens eat corn. That's what they eat on the...

I don't have quail, but people around here that do, take them into town and sell to the Asian markets. I think they sell in the stores for $6-8 a dozen, so I would think you'd sell to the market for 1/2 that?
Also, there were some really good pickled egg recipes. Around here, we use...
Glad you're back...and with good news! I've been wondering how you've been. Glad to hear you've been MIA because you've been busy, not because things got too rough. What are you doing now? Are you enjoying it?
Welcome back!
