Brainiac looking very lovely today. Hubby and I are discussing giving them more...regal names.
Megamind changed his mind about being out in the chilly air and put himself in a corner.
We're workshopping Louis and Vuitton, or Lamborghini and Ferrari/Bugatti
Kiddos on the porch. :3
Integration is...well it's going haha.
They're impossible to get in the pen at night so everyone just gets to tough it out I guess.
My 6 new run dwellers slept in the ivory coop last night. So we will take apart the triangular quarantine coop and scrap it, it's falling...
Sweet Delft has 4 adorable babies. I think it's safe to say Riddick is a fertile rooster.
There was a 5th that died during hatching. I accidentally dropped it when taking it out of the nest and my dog ate it.
Not a shred of guilt in his furry body.
Her nests are opened up to the flock...
Delft with her 4 babies, right before I opened the box back up. Her sisters came to say hello first and I gave them all privacy.
I now have 11 bales of straw, hopefully that will last me until next year. I need to rake up and collect pine straw as well, and figure out a way to compact it for...
@Ponypoor The boys are pretty obvious in my opinion. They'll have a pad above the beak that will sprout the horns eventually, and by 10 weeks they should be red and have wattles.
With that hooked beak it's fairly easy to see where the comb will grow! At least it is for me. I'll try to get pics...
Wouldn't that be beautiful? I can tell which kid is her egg because it has fuzzy legs. I hope hope hope it's a girl and she has her mother's beauty (and father's wonderful fibro!)
Delft has 4 little babies.
One has furry legs, definitely the egg she laid.
She was content to let me pick up and inspect each baby. She is still sitting on the last egg, I'll give it the day to start doing something.
The blue egg is pipped, there doesn't seem to be much coming from Ethels egg right now. But we can definitely tell who is the father of these kiddos!!!
@Sylvester017 I'm the one with the tolbunt pair. :)
Megamind
He's gonna be a looker for sure
Misty (and Cinnabun)
Delft is a mother
The two eggs from Chocolate hatched. Cemani orpingtons, Riddick is 100% the father haha.
The egg Delft laid was unzipping when I checked as well.
Lockdown is the last three days of egg incubation. Delft has had no desire to leave her nest, so I closed this nestbox set off from the other. The nestboxes are a pair of rabbit hutches put together with 4 individual nests.
Delft is sitting on her eggs, the ones you can see in the picture are...
Delft is locked down and ready to hatch some babies. :)
Set this up when I went to collect eggs yesterday. I hope it's a calm and comfortable place for them.
Beautiful day here, just had some rain.
Double rainbow!
Kiddo has named the splash polkie "Spotty" and we're undecided on the buff silkie. Toying with Blaze or Rusty but I'm hoping for a girl and need girl names. Buffy is taken
Riddick loves his six new kids, and the rest of the birds have...
Some observations.
The run-dwellers have instantly accepted the new chicks, today is their third day in the run and first day with the integration pen opened. The big birds had no aggression to them, the other chicks love having playmates.
Navy still knows her children, of course. She can still...
We had one egg that had stopped developing, so here at day 15? 16? Delft has 5 eggs remaining. I will have to block off the box she's in and turn it into a maternity suite.
