    Breed ID

Ooh that’s interesting! I hadn’t heard that/it didn’t happen with my other marans. I will definitely try to look at her skin later. The other one looks a bit more pink than black in the wattles so you’re probably right

    Breed ID

I wasn’t there when these were picked up from the feed store but my mother thought these were in. Bin of cuckoo and blue Marans. We definitely have cuckoo marans but these don’t look like the blue marans I’ve had before. Wondering if anyone knows what they are? They seem to have black/grey combs...

    Chocolate Orpington 10week old Roo?

This one has had me confused for weeks and it may still be too early to tell. The tail feathers have always been short and almost seemed like they would curl down like a rooster but it hasn’t changed. I’ve got a lot of weird tail feathers in my 10-11week olds but this has been consistent. My...

    Salmon Favorelle Roo or Pullet?

Her sister looks better but yeah hatcheries are always a draw. It’s why I was second guessing myself on this one!

    Salmon Favorelle Roo or Pullet?

A local feed store, not sure what hatchery they use though. Possibly Ideal Poultry.

    Salmon Favorelle Roo or Pullet?

Thanks! That’s what I was leaning towards but was wondering if I was just in denial, lol.

    Salmon Favorelle Roo or Pullet?

I’m a bit confused on one of my Salmon Favorelles. It does have some black feathers on its chest which I know is normally a cockerel sign but it’s not a big block of them and it otherwise is pretty similar to its sister in appearance. Not sure if it’s just because it’s hatchery quality or if...

    Mystery Chick Breed ID?

After googling it I think that might be what they are, thanks!

    Mystery Chick Breed ID?

Somehow I ended up with three mystery chicks. Two of them were supposed to be wellsummers but clearly are not, I can’t remember what the other was supposed to be. Originally I thought some kind of red/golden sex link but they seem to have barring. Any ideas on breed?

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

This was cooked up by my very handy father and is made out of scrap wood and chicken wire. The floor is black plastic covered with thick layer of shavings. It has hinges hinges on the side allow it to be folded up when not in use which is very convenient! And an Australian Shepherd for flavor, lol.

    Introducing Puppy to Flock

Hello everyone, I'm wondering about how to go about introducing a puppy to my flock. The pup in question will be an Australian Shepherd. The flock has run of the entirety of the yard- about 1/2 an acre that's fenced. I'm assuming that keeping the puppy leashed initially is best but beyond that...

Please help w/4 week old bully

Hopefully someone else chimes in, but that might be normal behaviour. My dominant pullet has always been similar- she’d bite and/or try and pull off any who were sitting higher up than her- recently she pulled some tail feathers out of one of the cockerels for that sin. The wing flapping seeks...

Ok let’s play id the cockerel

It’s possible for Hens to crow, I had a Cochin that would crow once in awhile.

    could it be a rooster?

Yep front one is definitely a cockerel.

Bought “sexed” chicks from the feed store, confirm my suspicions that this is a cockerel???

That’s bad odds with only 3 birds but it happens. Might check if they’ll take him back or not if you can’t keep him.

How can I get them tamed?

Same for me. As tiny babies they're all terrified of me, but as they get older they get much more friendly and curious.

    SLW 4.5 weeks - rooster?

Yep with Wattles at that age, that's a little cockerel.
  19. Sherloki

What age did your rooster crow?

This is Nugget. He started "crowing" at 6-7 weeks old. In reality he simply sounds like a squeaky toy. Meanwhile his Easter Egger "brothers" haven't made a peep and they're now all around 11 weeks old.

    Cockerel or pullet?????

This one is a cockerel, the bright red coming in, combined with the color of the comb and the tail says it all. The other two are looking like pullets to me, but the last is a bit hard to see.
