    Thanks for the info! I guess $10 a day sounds like a going rate? They'll just need to feed and water- the chickens will be fine staying in for that amount of time and I'll do a thorough cleaning before I leave. Hopefully he/she could give the shavings a stir but my coop is huge and not a lot...

    I love the ice in the water idea! Thanks! My coop tends to be cooler since one wall is stone and it's in total shade... but it has still been generally burning hot. The other chickens are their normal selves, but hopefully this one IS just hot and can feel better with ice and cold treats...

    My husband would sure be happier if it was female but I'm secretly hoping for a rooster. You might be right though since I haven't heard any rooster-like sounds at all and the face sure is girly looking. I guess she's just kind of mannish in the body!
