Yes, it is enormous. My husband asked if we had an ostrich that he didn’t know about when he saw the huge egg! 😁

    Very large goose egg

We have a young pair of Buff Toulouse geese and we love them, along with all of our ducks. Our pair of geese were hatched June 7th, 2020 and shipped to us from Metzer Farms. This is their first season of breeding and laying eggs/nesting. Our female, Tilly, started laying in the horrible...

    Strange duck egg

I found a strange duck egg in their coop this morning. Can anybody help me identify what happened and if this is something that might happen with young hens that have only been laying one or two weeks? It appears to be the membrane ... either extra membrane, or that the egg may have gotten the...

When should ducks start to lay

It wouldn't hurt. Some say it works for their hens. We wish we had done so earlier. Our girls are laying in their night time eclosure early in the AM … wherever the mood strikes them and they usually try to bury them in their hay bedding. It is exciting! Good Luck!

When should ducks start to lay

Our Anconas, Welsh Harlequins and Golden 300's have started laying at 17 to 20 weeks.

We purchased hatching eggs from Country Hatchery in Wewoka, OK. He was from one of their hatching eggs. All 3 Muscovies are gorgeous, but we hatched all “boy” eggs! :lau

We will need females soon. I am actively looking now. We love the drakes, but definitely are female deficient. Our total is now 11 ducks and 10 drakes! We are looking for new homes for some of the Welsh Harlequin and maybe an Ancona boy, or two. Also we have a Golden 300 boy that will likely...

    Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Here’s Huey, one of the Muscovies we hatched in April of this year (14+ weeks old). :) I was out feeding all the ducks and geese mealworm treats today in some really strong wind and it had many feathers blowing straight up! Huey is a beautiful Muscovy and I was so amazed at the patterning of...

    Antacids

If a pill becomes stuck and dissolves against the lining of the esophagus, it can cause a chemical burn or irritation. In these cases, an antacid is recommended. Our vet spent quite a bit of time with us stressing the importance.

    Antacids

I was definitely not suggesting aspirin. It would make the esophageal irritation worse, for sure! I was linking to this member’s vet approving the use of Maalox in a chicken. This my suggestion of using Maalox to soothe the irritated or burned esophageal lining.

    Antacids

I found another thread for some time back that a chicken owner was instructed to give some Maalox to her chicken. That might work for your goose until tomorrow. Be careful in giving it as I stated in the other thread. Then you can call your vet for further instructions in the AM. the use of...

Emergency: Food/tablet stuck in gooses throat

This thread says that her vet said it was OK to give some Maalox to her chicken, so maybe a bit of Maalox, or a piece of a Maalox tablet would be OK until you speak with your vet tomorrow. Be extremely careful if trying to give the Maalox liquid … don't try to squirt it in your geese's mouth...

Emergency: Food/tablet stuck in gooses throat

I wouldn't recommend giving the other meds because I have no experience with them and do not know if they are safe for a goose. I'm sorry.

    Won't come to bed tonight

Will they perhaps come to you if you offer them some of their favorite treats and then have them follow you to their night quarters? Hopefully the new duck will join your flock and learn to be kept safely too. I hope you have success.

Emergency: Food/tablet stuck in gooses throat

Our vet warned us that when giving meds to our goose that we should lubricate the pill first (with water or a water soluble lubricant) and make sure it is followed with water or food. If the pills melt while in the esophagus, they can cause irritation or chemical burns in the esophagus. If she...
