Dislocated jaw or broken jaw in young chick? solutions?

I have a 2 week old EE chick with a dislocated or broken lower jaw on one side. I have no idea how. I'm assuming she face-planted in the frolicking with the 5 other chicks. Seems to be drinking ok. Attempting to eat but I'm not sure how much is actually getting swallowed.

To Eat or Not To Eat the Eggs?

You are my hero/heroine today! Thank you! Food sitting around for unknown lengths of time, I'm funny about anyway, ALWAYS on the side of caution. Medicine and worming, I was unclear. Are the wait times posted somewhere? Most of the medicines I got are for other animals. I doubt the info is on...

Single White Hen Seeking Rooster Or What Qualities Make GOOD Roos

OK! Good to know!!! Thank you so much. I still have 3 cockerels left out of an entire flock of 20. It's my understanding to have 2 roosters. One as back-up. Yes I agree on the children points you mentioned. My 5 yr old granddaughter was here daily all summer and became an ACE CHICKEN WRANGLER...

Single White Hen Seeking Rooster Or What Qualities Make GOOD Roos

Not showing. Mixing breeds here. How much is TOO MUCH abuse to the hens when breeding? The EE that was culled this morning would jump out of the coop in the morning and NONE of the others would come out. Then, one of the lowly peasant pullets would come out... or pushed out by the others... and...

To Eat or Not To Eat the Eggs?

Somewhere, I believe I read certain circumstances when the eggs should NOT be eaten. Would someone please clarify? Can the pullets beginner eggs be eaten? Can the eggs after certain foods, medicines, environmental treatments be eaten?

Thank you so much for your lists! All written down and will go ASAP. My pullet did NOT make it through the night. Boo. I was curious about a necropsy. So talked to my dogs vet first. Referred me to one 40 miles away. Who, then, referred me to one in Northern VA, near Washington D.C. who treats...

    Lethargic and placid

What is a list of things I should have on hand for a couple dozen chickens? Wormer? What kind of wormer and where do I get it? What is the medicine for Coccidiosis? What else should I have on hand?

    Lethargic and placid

I've asked several people about worming. They said, no they didn't. I've asked about vaccinations. Another blank look. I did get all the chicks vaccinated for mareks when shipped and fed them medicated crumbles until I switched to scratch and laying hen pellets and oyster shells all mixed up. I...

    Lethargic and placid

Rectal exam didn't find an egg. She's panting and holding wings out a little to cool off, I guess. still lethargic. No flapping. No running away, while we were in the pen area. No hard lumpiness to guts or throat. She's shutting her eyes and very quiet. ... awwwww... my poor baby. I'd be...

    Lethargic and placid

OK! I'm gonna take her out and examine her more closely, as you suggested. All my chickens are 21 weeks old. My first ever experience with chickens. How and what do you worm them with? She now standing at the crate door, panting and wings held in cooling position. I'm not sure if she feels...

    Lethargic and placid

Awww... one of my chickens doesn't seem well. VERY lethargic. Allowed me to pick her right up. No flapping. Checked her vent. No lice/mite litter. Little bit of yellow poop on her feathers. She was sluggish to leave the pen this morning. I brought her inside. Put her in a medium crate with clean...

Tell me why you keep Roosters...

OK! Question! I'm new at chickens. I got all mine in May. Out of 22, I have 4 cockerels. What kinds of early behaviors do I need to watch for in aggression? The older one, an EE has always been a little surly to the other chicks. Now he is just an ... as... aggressive meany when I open the coop...
