11 month old Cuckoo Marans doesn't lay

My beautiful 11 month old Cuckoo Marans has yet to lay an egg. My other 4 hens (2 silkies, a sex link, and a Leghorn), who are all the same age, have been laying for months now. I actually generally get 4 eggs a day. Any ideas on why the Marans won't lay? She appears healthy and happy.

How to get them to lay eggs IN the nesting box?!?!

I have 5 hens and a roo, all just about 20 weeks old. Obviously we have been anxiously awaiting eggs! Well, this weekend we found a couple - in a tangled corner of the garden. Well, obviously she got the urge (we believe it is the Cuckoo Maran) when she was out and about and found herself a...

I'm not going crazy - I know a roo when I see one

Quote: Ah - thank you! That is the only one I was on the fence about. The others I am sure are roos - the silkie I was only about 70% sure. I got 7 chickens this past early spring and specifically ordered hens (yes, the place I purchased them from sexes ALL types). They are insisting that...

Would it help if I told you that #4 is the meanest of the bunch, and CROWS? LOL!

I'm not going crazy - I know a roo when I see one

So, what would you guess the gender of each of these beauties? 17 week old Buff Orpington: 17 weeks old Partridge Silky (sorry about the blur - it's a hyper chicken and won't sit still!) 9 week old Bantam Cochin: 9 week old Bantam Easter Egger: I would really appreciate any and all...

    Mixing of Bantees and Standards

I have 7 nine-week old chicks in the same run. Four are bantams and 3 are regular size. I haven't hard any issues and I don't plan on separating them. (well, a couple are going away because they are roos, but I don't think it's a problem mixins sizes provided you haven't noticed any abuse)

How common is this, and how upset should I be?

Quote: I am sure it's more the attachment, time, and feed used to get them this far that is more the issue not the few dollars paid to make sure it was hens. I understand, I can only have 1 roo and now I think I have 2. But I do understand that these are living animals and it can't be 100%...

How common is this, and how upset should I be?

I am a first-time chick owner. I ordered 7 FEMALE chicks, and THREE have turned out to be roos. I paid extra of course, to be sure I had HENS. I live in the city so having roos is not really an option for me. I am really really livid that I have put time and effort into something I cannot keep...

    Wanted: Pullets in Nashville, TN

I'm looking for a couple pullets (since THREE of my 7 FEMALE chicks turned out to be male ) - not terribly picky of breed, as long as they are gentle. If I had a choice though, I'd like some Wyandottes, Buff Orps, or EEs. Things are hectic right now so I don't have to ability to travel far to...

Cochin Bantam & EE Bantam roos need a new home - Nashville

My "she" turned out to be a "HE", and unfortunately I can't keep him. He is a 2 month old Black Cochin Bantam, and is an absolute sweetie, if a bit shy. He is supposed to be a "frizzle", but he really doesn't look it. He has adorably fluffy feet though. I need a good home for him before the...

So when are they no longer "chicks"?

Is there a magic age when chickens go from being "chicks" to pullets or cockerels? And when are they considered "full grown" hens or roosters? I'm having a hard time thinking of my big 7 week old girls as "chicks". I mean, they certainly act like a bunch of gossipy teenagers!

    Please tell me this isn't a roo . . . **UPDATE - it's a roo!**

...the time being, and just wait and see what happens. I guess I can't keep calling him "Stella" though, although it's a hard habit to break and I *swear* he knows his name - he always comes when I call! I like the above suggestion of "Stanley" though - but that was my grandfather's name and...

Where to buy adult hens near Nashville?

I'm just bumping this because I'd like an answer on this too. I'm in Nashville, and am interested in pullets. I have 7 5-week old chicks, but one has turned out to be a roo, and I wanted 7 layers. And I'm sorry about your missing chicken - that's weird that there was no sign of her whatsoever...

...comfort or repose of any person in the vicinity." The houses are pretty close together here - the closest neighbor to the coop is about 100 yards away (but we are behind a privacy fence). I may mention to my neighbors that we *may* have a roo, and to please let me know if they are ever...
