Anyone looking for a Carolina Coops Cali coop? I ordered one with a run extension which arrived just in time for us to be moving to a place where I can’t use it. It’s still wrapped and on the pallet in my driveway. Asking $1600. I live in South Jersey- you’ll need to come get it! Hoping it...
This story is so incredible to me, and I have no one to share it with but you folks!! A few nights ago, I forgot to close my coop and run after letting the girls free range in my yard. Quite honestly, I had become somewhat complacent about it because in 6 years of having chickens, we've never...
Thank you so much! It's hard to lose a friend :( moved the coop and sanitized everything in hopes I can avoid even more heartbreak. I do wonder whether it was a cancer based on decline over several days rather than rapidly as seems to be the rule with infectious causes. Could explain...
Thank you! Appreciate your support so I didn't feel quite so alone last night trying to help her! It's not fun to watch and wait knowing you're unlikely to prevent anything :(
Unfortunately she had passed :( my focus now is on the other 3 girls, who so far look great. Going to power wash and sanitize everything in coop and probably treat all for cocci? Or is this overkill since diagnosis in question?
Wormer on the way so will definitely do that, and will put ACV in...
Still alive this morning but weaker. Gave more electrolytes and will get to feed store and give antibiotics at lunch time. Planning for corid as well as broad spectrum antibacterial.
Tried giving some water by syringe. She takes it down, then gurgles a little like last night. She hasn't really had any further diarrhea- in fact no BM at all. Not convinced it's coccidia from the pics of stool I've seen. Will treat with corid anyway if we get through the night!
...again, she only ate what I smeared on her beak. After a few swallows, she sounded a little gurgly.
This morning she was more lethargic. I thought *maybe* she was egg bound? So soaked her in warm water twice with no imorovement. Now several hours later she's difficult to arouse and still...
Isolating her is a great idea! (wish I could have a rooster!!!). I could use the dog crate the chicks were in- but any guidelines for how much space a hen in solitary confinement needs? Will do some research here on the forum.
Thanks so much for suggestion!!!!
Help!!!! One of my hens seems to think she's a rooster. We started out with 3 hens that grew up together, and then lost one of them last spring. The remaining two, a BR and black australorp, are now 3 years old. Australorp was always dominant, but friendly and easy to handle. Now she's...
I have a cube and LOVE it. We started with an ark we built from plans. It was OK, but didn't have much room up top for my girls (RIR, BR, BO). The top is not super spacious, so I don't think I would put more than a max of 5-6 larger chickens in there. The entire floor is the "roost", so they...
I'm so happy to find this forum today! I was about to buy an Eglu cube but of course had to check in here first. I know it's more expensive, etc, etc, and frankly I don't mind. It's not about the money. I've had a homemade wooden coop for 2 years now and I'm looking forward to easier...
I've not been watching my girls daily because of a new baby, but yesterday I let them loose in the yard and my RIR is missing some feathers on her chest. There are a number of feathers strewn around the coop. This is the girls' second fall, they are about 16 months old. So far the other two...
I LOVED my nipple waterer made out of a gallon milk jug... used it for over a year, but suddenly they started leaking. And not from the grommet, from the actual nipple. Just dripping all the time. So I ordered new ones (and paid that ridiculous shipping from FarmTek), but they do the exact...
