I think you're talking about the same type as on the Australian ebay site. But they're heaps cheaper here... usually they go for about $200AUD depending on the type.
I guess shipping to the US would be a killer though!
hehehe I didn't even notice the typo until you pointed it out. Very funny!!
That very 'green' yard is mainly weeds. It's out of control!
Those 'plants' behind the clothes line are just bamboo... the neighbours bamboo which is incredibly invasive and basically a weed. It throws out runners...
Well I know the snow in the other hemisphere is pretty bad this year, so here's some none snow covered yard for you to look at.
Ahhh look at my nice big backyard.... all to myself because the naughty Australorp has jumped over the fence and my owner can't find her... Ah well. She always comes...
Thanks for the ideas.
And Tammie thanks for the reassurance and example that it can be done.
Last night I locked them in their coop a little earlier than they normally would put themselves to bed and they were fine.
This morning though the racket was unbeleivable for just 2 chooks. I think...
Ours were incredibly noisy in the mornings and we'd go out and feed them and they'd quieten down.
Then we went on holidays for 6 weeks and had friends look after them. They fed them around lunch time each day, and now they don't make any noise in the morning.
I'm also really careful now to not...
They sorta look like my Australorp X. ( I can't remember what it's crossed with - i think a RIR)
It has the same nice green translucent tinge to the black feathers. Mine also has red lacing on the chest. Very pretty.
But my australorp has dark coloured legs.
So my answer is: no idea, I don't...
Chickens are pretty hardy to the heat from what I've seen here in Australia. So long as they have some shade and lots of fresh water they do ok.
I often laugh at mine as they try to cool off by panting and lifting their wings up to let the air in under. Were yours doing this cooling off...
Hi Everyone,
I need advice on keeping chickens quiet in a new housing arrangement.
We're moving house and will need to keep the chickens locked up in a yet to be constructed run as our new house doesn't have a proper fence yet.
At the moment our 2 chickens are just free ranging in the backyard...
hahaha... just had an idea.
When you do get in contact with her, pass on my website www.TravellingPhotographers.com and let her know I'll do her photos if she needs some done.
I know that business. They're not too far away from me, and I've actually bought some stuff through them.
I'm a photographer and have to deal with a LOT of copyright infringements. Most people just don't understand copyright law... which is fair enough. But when people think that just because...
There use to be someone on ebay selling quail eggs for art purposes to get around ebay's policy on not selling animals. I never bought any though as my boyfriend won't let me. tee hee hee.
Or check out farmstock.com.au There's always heaps going on there. Or australianpoultryforum.com.au
Well we're not on that many acres.... infact I think we're on 1/8th of an acre.
But my chooks fly over the fence and waddle down the street about 300m every day scratching through all the neighbours front yards on the way.... But they always make it back in time for night time.
Luckily we live...
Have you tried using a red heat lamp?
They're not as bright as the white normal bulbs and so it might get your little chikky used to darkness a bit more.... or maybe try gradually moving the bulb away instead of just turning it straight off.
Do any of the other chicks 'cry' when you turn the...
Well I've just read most of these pages and these are all very funny stories!!!
But as I always say... There are no stupid questions... only stupid answers.
So good on these people for at least asking if hens need roosters to lay. Let's face it, they'd be a lot more stupid if they hadn't have...
I just read that link too this morning and I came here to post it in this thread. So sad. And it makes me so angry.
That said though - we don't really know how much of this story is just a typical peta overhype. If you know what I mean. Maybe they're euthanised before ground up. Ughhh... it's...
I've had a similar problem this week. My backyard stank with a really pungent decaying smell and I couldn't actually figure out where it was coming from.
Then I smelt the same smell 100m down the road and figured out the neighbours had just manured their gardens, and it was just the way the...

That's a link to a news story where scientists have turned a rooster embryo into a hen!
Pretty exciting stuff!
