Dubud, the white earlobe and dark legs would indicate a Minorca.

    Minorca thread!

CRAJ,glad to hear you have a flock of White Minorcas going. All Minorcas should lay large and extra-large white eggs (show or commercial lines) and all varieties of Minorcas,by full maturity time or by 1 year old. The best or easiest way to get a large egg strain is to only set large or larger...

    Minorca thread!

Thanks for the Minorca links to old material.I have these and have used them and much more for my book Spanish Breeds of Poultry Ancestry. I am collecting additional information and if I can get enough will update the book again.I could use any good articles, pictures ,breeder catalogs,Minorca...

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

Interesting, might tell the difference between cream tinted, light brown and pink shells.I was told today that creambars lay a blue shell egg that is white in the inside,so I wonder if they sand off white.?

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

Size looks okay.Worth working with. Earlobes could be whiter but that can be improved without too much difficulty.Could be refined in the usual places like sweep of back ,longer main tail and shorter wings.Wings are often not carried level.Color looks fairly good. Thanks for posting.pictures.

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

Thanks for the kind words. What do the Buff Leghorn bantams look like and what weights are they? Some pictures would be nice and I ask about weight as many Leghorn bantams are too big. After breeding both large and bantam Buff Leghorns,I find the bantams harder to get right, but I think that is...

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

If you back cross to pure Buff Leghorns enough generations you might get back to Buff Leghorns. This is usually done through the pure males until they are 15/16 Buff Leghorns.A long process and with this cross you have so many things to eliminate, slate legs, breards, blue egg shells, pea comb,red...

Yes try them again later on. Free range and sunshinehelps,if confined indoors clean the dust/dirth on windows and add a few shoves full of sod to the pen every few days and see if it helps.Maybe a can of dog food twice a week.

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

Another good posting. Way back when Ann got birds off me she got some from Fred Zillich 's breeding and some of my breeding too.Fred's had an outcross to Buff Rock, which is why they layed tinted eggs, looked blocky, loose feathered, and sometimes were broody. I made sure she got at least one of my...

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

An interesting reply to say the least. My Buffs lay mostly medium eggs and more small than large, however I would rather they lay more large and less small. With bigger frames and wider pelvic bones they can be okay.A breeding consideration as well as longevity.I also breed Minorcas which lay well...

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

Chickenboy 100,Something is wrong, even the poorest should be laying sometimes at 8 months. Are they on a good layer or breeder ration?Good lights, clean windows,?Are they healthy? What about egg eating?

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

Nice to read this.I am glad Ann still has these.I have bred the tinted egg out of my line now as I had many to select from .I would caution getting the birds and eggs too small.I also do not want them too short legged or fluffy. I do not like the huge floppy comb, but in the females I have most...

    Minorca thread!

They appear pure Minorca. However the comb is really large on this female too. No the wattles do not have to be dubbed but they are probably very long as it often goes along with huge combs. However big wattles can freeze if they drag in the water and then freeze in cold temps.,they can swell like...

    Minorca thread!

Dubbing would be your best bet at this point, for no one wants to run an animal or bird hospital, medications are expensive and vet bills too (you can dub the comb and wattles too yourself). If the bird has good type ,size, etc. you can use him for breeding after he heals up completely, but as Mike...

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

I do not have any Rose Comb Buffs anymore only the Single Combs. There are a few around, Fred Zillich from Mo. may still have a few. Breeding a young cockerel with old hens should give you some fertility.Leghorns should be decent layers,as they age perhaps they will lay much less but if of good...

    Breeding Buff Leghorns

Thanks for reposting the article I wrote, it is hard to believe it was over two years ago. I was just looking over this years youngsters today, some later hatched birds are still immature and the cold temps slow them down too ,but they might be a few good ones among them. Dan Honour

    Minorca thread!

I liked seeing so many Minorcas on display in the English video.I think the earlobe size in the US has shrunk over the decades and is really too small for such a big bird.We really could use a shot of the English bloodlines,an old timer once told me you have to use extremes in the breeding...

    Blue Andalusian thread!

The three days in the refrigerator is good .It helps to soak in brine for 24 hrs. You can also then soak for another 8 hrs. in ranch dressing.Nothing like a tender bird verses a tough one.
