Okay, update!! I went back outside and noticed that now my dog was digging out there where the wood pile was. I walked over there and sure enough a mouse came hopping out. One of the chickens went after but they didnt catch it. Anyway dog is still digging then uncovers a pile of little baby...
While cleaning around the coop today, I knocked over a wood pile and out tumbled about 4 mice I think. Holy cow, the chickens went beserk and nailed 2 of them. I'm not sure if they ate them or not. they sure were trying to.
Well I guess thats one more pest that chickens take care of !

LOL!!! For sure!!!!
I will go ahead and third this suggestion. I wanted just a few. Got 6 right off the bat. then added 3 more and one more on the way. So yeah good thing I went big on the coop. Chickens are too fun. and Ill second to get a mix of chickens. Im not experienced enough to...
i went out there and took them out of the next boxes and placed them on the roost. I boarded up acces to the nest boxes as well. A few seemed to start sleeping on the roost. The others seemed a bit restless and were climbing on the other ones. Again like they are cold. but these chickens are in...
I have a feeling my teenager chickens are developing a bad habit. I just completed the nest boxes in their coop now they all cram in there to sleep. 9 chickens are cramming themselves into 2 nest boxes! All are 8 week olds with 2 3 month old Cochins! They look like battery hens for cripes sakes...
I saw that ad but when I clicked on it, it was to late. Oh well. I dont need any more except that cochin Im getting this week from Ban. My wife about flipped whey I brought 3 cochins home on saturday. Course my mom wants me to pick her up a silkie if I see one for sale and keep it for her...

Standard cochins or bantam?
Triple D hatchery has cochins, not sure what size..
Id like to get standards. I saw triple D was getting bantams in. Maybe Ill call them to see if they can get standards. But Honestly I wouldnt mind bantams if I knew they could be mixed with my standards...
well soon after I cut that string short, I put some olive oil in her mouth, and turned her loose in the run. She acted normal for the rest of the night, She ate, I didnt see her drink. But this morning she is out scratching and pecking with the rest of the chickens. Maybe the string fell off.
Dangit I ended up cutting the long string I needed to hold her tongue out. I cant reach her tongue now. please give me advice. I know it sounds horrible to think of so soon, but I dont want this girl to suffer for a week. When should I cull or what signs should I watch for?
Yeah the string is wrapped around the tongue. Its a very fine string, thinner than dental floss. I cut some off. but im not sure if its a synthetic fiber or cotton. I cant cut it at the tongue. Its sunk it way to deep. cant unwind it either
Oh man, one of my 6 week old chicks is very sick. I came home and she has string hanging out of her mouth. I tried gently pulling it but it is stuck. And it hurts her when I pull it. She does not look good. The animal clinic said that no one is in to look at her. What should I do.
I went to BYC Chicken breed index and looked up wyndotte. They have a blue one on there whos coloring looks like my little roo. https://www.backyardchickens.com/breeds/wyandotte/34506
okay here is a side shot. I swear chickens will not hold still!
Here is a shot of the other chick that looks like him and is the same age, probably from the same parents. this one is bigger by a little bit, tail feathers are longer. But it has a white comb and not much for waddles either so Im...
Here is one of my 6 week old chicks. This is the only one whose comb and waddles look this red. And they are also the biggest by far. This must be a rooster right? And Im pretty sure he is a blue wyndotte?
Its coming along pretty nicely. I think I really blew it out of proportion for what I need though. I only plan on 6 chickens. Coop is 8x6 with 7 foot height transitioning to 5 foot in the back. Im up to about 700 or so. By the time its all said and done with the run ill probably hit close to...
