thanks for the advice. i've been thinking about worming them and looked into a couple of posts that describe a good way to go about it.
other than not laying, they are behaving normally, walking around the yard, clucking and digging. since i last posted, i've got three "molting", all the...
my chickens layed for about five months (started january-ish) and have now started molting again. their third molt.
their last molt lasted about five months, then they took two months off just standing around eating. seven months of dink-doinking around.
I have three orpingtons and two...
my head hen will make a noise that is pretty darn close to crowing, more like a long crow
she makes this noise a couple of times a day. the first time i heard it, i was standing next to the run and it scared the pants off me
i am pretty sure she is a hen though because she gives us about 5-6...

Australorps seem to be willing to stay out later in the evening than the other breeds. Maybe their black eyes gather light better
thats a funny observation
my australorps will keep the orpingtons out and about until well into dusk,
they seem to dictate when its night coop time
from your description, the flock is at peace

great friendly birds. inquisitive and good at free ranging. mine are pretty vocal and wander in and out of the house and property.
they have flown as high as four feet. now that spring is here, i get and egg a day from each.
behold the mighty blackaroni
i use 1x2 and the rats stay out, i havent had a mouse problem yet

i am planning on adding to my flock
my current hens were purchased from mcmurray and vaccinated
the new chicks will likely be from a backyard breeder
once feathered out, the will be kept adjacent to the current flock for a gradual acclimatization
do the chicks need medicated food? i dont...
i dont have an incubator, so chicks would be great. was hoping for my white orp to be broody, no dice
as far as the number, i am looking for the minimum amount you feel you can ship safely
i am looking for two, but have great homes for extras
thanks
just like the title says, i'm looking to add to my backyard flock of australorps and orpingtons
would like to add some buffs, the bigger the breeding stock the better, yea for big girls
you can pm me and i can also be reached at uaetcoj at yahoo dot com
thanks
i ordered black australorps and white orpingtons from mcmurray
fabulous friendly birds
if i had to choose, and i wont, i prefer the australorps
still all great, though, and averaging about six eggs a week, from each bird
get a bunch of extras, figuring for losses and cockerels, sexing isnt...
