How long can they lay fairy eggs?
I've got a Swedish Flower hen that's 13 months, 2 weeks old (58 weeks) as of today. And she's still laying fairy eggs with regularity. I do believe I got a few very large sized eggs out of her earlier in the spring, but all I'm finding now is these yolk-less...
Tons and Tons of waterfowl migrate thru Sequoyah county due to Kerr reservoir and the Arkansas river basin. Hope those of us to the West in drier counties will escape this mess..
Same here. I have a little coop to lock them up at night, but during daylight hours, they roam a half-acre backyard. An enclosed run would use resources and funds that I just don't have available at the moment..
I did take down my bird feeders to hopefully minimize wild bird interaction...
What's everybody's take on using "Bio-Solid" compost in the garden?
Nearest big city works dept. makes compost from bio-solids gleaned from the waste treatment facility.
Documentation says, compost "has been processed in a manner that meets all the current U.S. EPA and Oklahoma Department of...
Don't worry too much about it. If you're above 30 and below 55, you're probably fine. I have 2 of the same incubator. The last time I hatched eggs, I ran mine dry for day 1-17 and then added water on day 18, closed the vents and got the humidity as high as I could get it.
If I remember right...
So "heat" is what's needed to prune it back in nature? If we can just hold on, Spring is one the way. An honest 80 degrees right now in OK today.. Seems down right Hot after having sleet and snow last week.
Meet Fridge, short for Refrigerator chicken.
About 4 years ago I was in the same situation. A bud of mine had some chickens and a predator was slowly picking them off.
He had a barnyard mix rooster that was darn nice. Great around people and protected his hens with authority during daylight...
I "dry hatched" some Swedish Flower hen eggs last April on the dining room table in Oklahoma. Didn't add any water until day 18. If I remember right, out of 13 viable eggs, 11 hatched.
Went to the Newcastle Poultry auction yesterday for the first time, thought I'd report back.
There were things that I liked and disliked about it
Likes: 1) The facility was pretty clean and adequate, as clean as a shared county AG barn can be. Attendance and participation might have been down...
Nah, no luck. Doesn't seem to be any interest, even as just sacraficial flock protectors. Thinking about trying a sale next week, just to see if anybody will take them. I've heard there's a decent sale in Maud and one in Jones.
Bud of mine had some Polish, they were fun to watch. A bit...
I incubated a bunch of SFH eggs from 2 breeders trying to get some replacement hens.
I hatched a few pullets to keep for myself, but I also hatched an over abundance of cockerels (8), they've got to go, can't keep them.
All Cockerels, No Pullets.
One crested cockerel hatched on 4-4-21 (13...
Can you get Pedialyte at the grocery/drug store? Check out "splayed leg" on Youtube, see if it has that. I cured one this Spring using the band-aid version.
