Lately I've been looking for info on leg problems and found this site informative.
Maybe you can find some answers there. Good luck with your chick.
Thank you, guys ....
I have to find a way to get myself together and start enjoying the chicks that did hatch healthy and cute.
I'm exhausted from worrying and trying to make it better for the one that didn't.
I guess the way we chose to do it contributed to the whole drama - baking soda/vinegar gas chamber .... but we used too big of a container and it took FOREVER. I put my hand inside to hold the chick and come it down but after a few minutes I still felt movement and I lost it. It was taking toooo...
Thank you, Cherish. I know the chick would not be able to survive with its condition and we did what we had to do. It's so hard to make that call but execute it even harder.
I'm sorry about your hen. My kids have a hard time dealing with it too.
The chick did not improve. It was on its side, going around, not able to put its feet under, lift the body and keep balance.
We decided to end its life. It was horrible. We all cried.
I'm still sick to my stomach.
Horrible, horrible experience.
:(
Never again do I want to go through something...
Still trying to figure out how to help my chick. It has not make progress for the better.
I'm thinking this is what's happening to it:
Cerebellar Abiotropy
This condition develops shortly after a chick is born creates progressive balance and coordination problems caused by brain neurons called...
well. I took the wrap off. It made it even harder to control the legs. I'm keeping the chick in the incubator over night with another chicks that's mellow, for company. The chicks seem to be trying hard to get up and get a hang of walking. Maybe it just needs more time to practice. I hope so.
Thanks guys, I sort of assumed spraddle legs, put the wrap around them and stuck the chick in the cup again. I purchased the vitamins, tried to feed it to the chick with water, but am not sure how much the chick took. I don't want to drawn it. It was not interested in drinking by itself but did...
I hoped it was some leg deformity (that could be fixed). But the legs look fine, they don't stick out in different direction and seem strong. It can push itself out of the cup and all. It looks to me that its brain cannot figure out how to keep balance.
One of the chicks (polish) that hatched over the weekend cannot walk. Its legs look fine and seem strong.
The chick is not able to stand up and keep balance. It lays on the side and chirps until I pick it up, or throws itself from side to side.
It hatched a day before due date (day 20), but...
Hi guys, I haven't been here forever, but with spring slowly approaching I'm starting to get a hatching fever.
I'm looking for laced (buff, or black and white) polish hatching eggs. Can you guys recommend someone?
Also, is there any chicken show planned any time soon in Bloomington, IN?
Thanks

Wow, that is one interesting looking bird. I love this kind of coloring.
Good luck on your hatchlings.
I posted pics in a separate post but will paste them here as well, just a little smaller
I just successfully hatched bobwhite quail and, honest to god, I have no idea what humidity I had going during the incubation.
I had no way of measuring it.
I just filled up one reservoir with water for the first 20 days and two for lock down. All eggs, but one, hatched without any problems.
So, three weeks ago we set 50 quail eggs in the Brinsea Octo 20.
A week into incubation I pulled 7 eggs and 43 were developing.
The chicks were due on Monday but decided to come on Sunday.
We ended up with 42 perfect little babies (one, the 43th one, died in the egg).
Are they cute, or what?

I've hatched two batches of chicken eggs so far, and never did the float test.
Acctually I may have, but only after a bunch already hatched and I wanted to check if the unhatched ones had anything living in them. Is that the purpose of a float test?
My quail eggs are due on the 14th, so a few days before yours.
I started out with 50 and pulled 7 out a week ago.
I candled a few yesterday and they all looked good so I'm just going to leave them alone, until they hatch.
I never had quail before and am a little apprehensive.
I have a week to...
My husband ordered ducklings from one of the hatcheries ( I don't remember which one). And they came with 10! RIR roosters to keep them warm.
I was so glad to get rid of them. I still can't believe someone actually wanted 10 baby roosters.
