How many can you process in one day by yourself (with a tub-plucker)?

Well, for all my big talking I only got one done. "Gimpy." And I have been meaning to cull him for a week. After processing I found that he did have a broken thigh bone that had sortof healed over, but he has no thigh muscle on that side. I have made a mental note to cull more quickly, that...

I did it! Mr. Turkey has gone to glory.

Finally remembered to upload his picture. Not the best picture, but you can see him up by the window. He's the one on the platter, not in the high chair.

    Process or wait?

I don't think anyone here is going to promise that you won't lose any more birds over the 2 weeks. It depends on so many factors there's no sure fire answer. Mine are right at 11 weeks and they are thundering around like a herd of water buffalos. One got a little gimpy but I think it's...

How many can you process in one day by yourself (with a tub-plucker)?

Thank you O.B. This gives me hope. I was thinking that with the scalder and plucker I would be able to rip right through them (pun intended.)

How many can you process in one day by yourself (with a tub-plucker)?

Hi all, I am getting ready to process the 23 CX I have ready to go. I am borrowing a scalder and tub plucker from a fellow 4-H parent, and I am wondering if I am being realistic thinking I will be able to get all 23 done this weekend. I have about 4 hours on Saturday to dedicate to this...

I did it! Mr. Turkey has gone to glory.

My BBW has laid 4 total. I was hoping the Bourbon Red would get his groove thing on, but I have seen no signs of turkey-nookie.

BBB - do they get too heavy to walk?

If she's squatting on the ground and shaking her wings out to the side she's just looking for a little turkey-nookie.

My turkey doesn't like my new rooster!

I was surprised by the trans-species aggression, too. I have a rooster that has moved his bad self to the front yard, which is duck-land. He went over and is acting all big and bad to the Rouen drakes.

Welcome aboard and good for you for taking steps to challenge the status-quo in food production. Next year you'll be processing your own turkey. :-) Or helping out on the farm.

I did it! Mr. Turkey has gone to glory.

It only took a year of mental prep and all y'alls experience hope and strength that you have graciously shared here on these boards, but I did it! A big shout out to you, Booker1 - I had your chicken tutorial up in the living room the whole time I was gutting so thank you for posting it, it...

    Glory day is here

I did my first ever processing today. Yay, me. He was a lovely BBB tom that probably weighs 20+ lbs dressed out. It was easier, and harder, than I thought it would be. Easier because well, let's face it, this is not brain surgery. :-) But it was harder to do the initial cut than I thought...

    weird.

The EE capons and roos I processed made broth jello. Made some into chicken and rice soup by diluting it. It was AWESOME!

Anyone have SQ Pekin ducks? Pics

If she is in a youth show, she will have fun even if she took the scraggliest looking undersized one you have. We took a hatchery Rouen to the FWSSR and my son got a blue ribbon with him. Yeah, he was the only Rouen there, but my son still refers to that duck as his 'award winning duck'...

Processing turkeys on the 12th for Thanksgiving.

Thank you all. I think they plan to freeze, or at least I hope they do. I dunno, me personally I think I'll wait till next weekend to do mine.
