Thanks for taking time to reply. I'm sorry to be so clueless, but do you mean barring in the saddle feathers and/or secondary feathering? Males keep this barring and females lose it?
Does this help? These are the ones I want to breed so they're the ones I'm most concerned about sexing. They came from a very reputable show-quality breeder, but I can't tell SQ from PQ, lol!
Hi all. This is my first year with turkeys. I'm wondering if you guys would be willing to give me your opinions on these birds? I'm looking for your opinions on quality as well as sex. The blues hatched out in March. And the Bourbons in April.
I was hoping for at least one female in the...
Yep...it looks like just what I need but I hear that it crashes and deletes data. Spending time putting info in only to have it erase will drive me crazy. Has that happened to you, or only crashing?
I'm looking for an Android App to track births/hatches, medications, treatments, egg-laying, broodiness, deaths, etc. Does anyone use anything good? I use the BeeTight app for my hives, but can't find anything inexpensive/free that's good for hobby farm people.
TIA.
Quick question from a peafowl newcomer. I hatched out a single chick named Flipper about a month ago. Because it was alone (all its brood-mates were stolen/broken by a squirrel) I put a newly hatched oliver egger chick in with it. Last week they started fighting. So I removed the OE chick and...
The website www.dogsondeployment.org helps to place pets in adoptive homes when their owners are deployed with the military.
THey are currently looking for a home for 4 laying hens in WA. Here's the listing.

When we say "all military, all pets," we mean it! Even chickens...
My solo peachick just hatched in my Brinsea 20. Whoo hoo!
How do you guys brood your peachicks? I'm thinking I might put him in with some week old chicken chicks, but I'd love to hear your experience with brooding. What kind of setup do you use? Wire, sand or wood chip floor? For food, do you...
HI. I'm raising 2 royal palms and 2 blue slates. I started with 6 day old chicks and now have only 4. One died the first day. The other got sick and died. Not sure why. One of the blue slates is not thriving, but she's ok for now. In the future I think I'll try hatching my own chicks, since...

Ok, so we're talking about chickens on a peafowl thread, but...one more story...Since Clueless Broody has totally abandoned her remaining eggs in favor of the 3 chicks she now is mothering, I brought the remaining 4 eggs in for disposal but thot, what the heck, I'll candle them quick...
Interesting and opposite thing just happened here. That clueless broody chicken hen I was talking about a couple of posts ago has been terrible about not actually sitting on her eggs as she should. I was about to give up on any of them hatching when (surprise) 3 of them hatched between 5-6 days...
Err, one more thing, annabell254....We are military, which is why I live in the desert of So Cal, but I'm actually from Savannah! I just saw you're from SE GA! Love all the GA peaches on BYC!

That's a great idea. The hen who abandoned her nest hasn't started laying again and seems to be co-brooding with the hen still on eggs. Go figure. So maybe tucking the baby under her will work. I also have three chicken chicks who just hatched and their mom is a goofball. So worse case...
Hi Peaexperts. I'm Mary Beth, and I need help with a peachick hatch. I have had a breeding trio since last fall, and they've been laying for about two weeks. Each hen laid 3-5 eggs in a clutch, then sat.
The hen on 3 eggs abandoned her nest on about day 10. I watched her for a day to see if...
So after all my worrying, my broody Snowflake hatched out all seven eggs. Four Showgirls and 3 Marans. 100% hatch. Woo hoo. Here they are!
Thanks for all the advice and support. Happy Hatching.
