I planted my garlic 6 days ago(?), and the grocery store cloves are up already. That was fast! The expensive Italian garlic I ordered is not breaking ground yet, but I'm sure I planted early enough for them to have a good root system before winter sets in.
I might like that. I grow radishes mainly for the chickens, along with tons of other greens. This year I grew purple radishes and they are spicier than others I grew, great in potato salad. Bet they'd be wonderful pickled, thanks for the idea!
What a smart way to plant! I just dug a couple trenches in the front and back of each of my beds, and popped the garlic in there. That way the middle area of each bed is clear for planting next spring. Also over planted the garlic in the hopes of repelling voles. I've been plagued by them the...
I'm not the most graceful creature, lol.. have broken jars in the freezer before. I place the frozen cubes in a freezer bag and just pull out however many I need at the time. Safer for me, and ill never again have to clean out a whole chest freezer because I was clutzy
Our first frost is listed as October 15, but usually closer to Halloween. They say 4-6 weeks before frost, but I've always done it around the 1st and its worked out alright.

I went to the garden, saw a couple little tiny cabbage worms on my kale. Before I could get my sprayer out we got a huge downpour. Temps dropped into the 50s overnight, and even more rain for two days. Figured my kale would be chewed to nothing by the time I got back down there to spray. Nope...
How did you get those husks off? A friend of mine drives over them with her car, lol. Says they're too hard to get off any other way, but if you have a better way ill pass it on to her.
