my 5 week old babies were outside today, checking things out and pecking around. i had to pee really bad, but did not want to leave them. i live way out in the country so i knew there wouldn't be any peekers, so... i dropped my jeans and squatted and oh it felt so good..l.. until the babies...
i had a fly fall inside my ear one night as i was trying to fall asleep. it buzzed and crawled around for a couple minutes before it found its way out.
grit stays in a crop the same amount of time that food stays in a crop, about 6-8 hours. i would imaging it stays in the gizzard somewhat longer. grit in the crop will do nothing, it is a holding area. grit in the gizzard is where the grinding action occurs.
i tend to think in "what would mama do?" terms. if a broody hen had them, they would be eating bugs, and grit and things from the first day. she wouldn't be feeding them medicated food (if they're not sick why give medicine?). she would be keeping them warm and dry, teaching them to scratch...

what kind of issues? did it talk back, roll its eyes, heave great sighs and give you the stink-eye? steal your clothes, get phone calls at 3 am, rack up hundreds of dollars on the cell phone and bring home a boy (?) with a pink mohawk who wearing a leather dog collar around his neck, the same...
