Winter Time

For future reference, during the winter when it's 20 degrees F, do I need to provide heat for my chickens in the coop, or is installation enough?

Can you give us an idea of the breeds you are considering or already have? That can have a bearing on what they will need winter care-wise.
I have LF brahmas. Our winter lows get in the teens, sometimes single digits but those are rare.
Other than having a draft-free coop that is insulated, I do absolutely nothing different for winter. I close the shutters over the large coop windows for any temps. below 40.

readers digest version: for a reasonably hardy breed in dryish air, likely just fine; if air is humid, that's a problem though.

not a single thing different, i live where it gets below 0, and i let them out every day, even in the snow to free range in the sheds and lean to, dry+cold equals fine, wet + cold equals bad

I dont add any extra heat and they do just fine and I dont even have that much of a insulated coop too but they did perfect.
