I got 2 EE's so I could have blue or green eggs in my basket. They both have dark green legs and they both lay pink eggs. So, I guess I'll have to get some new chickens!
I say it's the heat that caused them to stop laying. I have some that are on strike and I don't have that excuse here.
Not sure if chickens actually get jealous but there is definietly a pecking order that must be followed. The new one will work it's way into its place in the order and...
Weasels look like a ferret or mink but can be smaller. Where do you live? We have all manner of predators here- I just lost a 9 week old to a hawk. But have seen mink, bear and eagles out back. The eagles seem to prefer thier food already dead but I still don't trust 'em. The using the victim...
I hope my integration goes as smoothly. I have a flock of 7 15 month olds that live in the coop out the back door. I have a flock of 9, 9 week olds in a greenhouse further up my hill. I've had them all out running around together and so far so good- no squabbles and they've eaten together as...
Mine are on strike too but it can't be the weather- it's usually cool and damp here in SE AK. The girls have only been putting out about 3 a day when it had been 7 day. Slackers I tell you.
Mine did. when they were real little they stayed pretty clear of me (with the exception f 1) but once they started laying, all I have to do is go near the coop and here they come a runnin!
Yep- they'd go out every night after I got home from work- in the other Free Range question above this post I said when I fed them I'd rattle the pail and call to them so they always come running when I go outside. Once they started to lay, I didn't let them out until late afternoon. I only...
that is a hysterical name! Mine have always been food motivated. When I'd feed them I'd call "chick, chick, chick" and hand feed them. Shake the pail and make it a sport. Now if I so much as walk out there they come running. You wil LOVE watching them run around chasing the bugs. I worried at...
Isn't that a touch toxic? Is it in the garden section or the pet section at WM? We have a WM here but I don't go in there very often- although I should, perhaps I can even get some People of WalMart pictures! Or I could go dressed as a chicken!
Well, long as I have to order the wormer I might as well get lice/mite preventative as well. I've not noticed anything external parasites, so what should I use to make sure I don't get any- sprays, powders? ? ? We are in short supply of dust around here- SE AK is a rainforest. Do I even need...
I suppose I can just use 14.29 of the bag- if the entire bag is good for 100 chickens, and 7 goes into 100 14.285 times, then it should be fine in a full bowl of food? ? ?
My beloved primrose was a Delaware and simply refused to stay down. I popped home one warm day to make sure I'd turned the fan on in the coop. She flys up to my shoulder and then. . .Yep, all down the from of my work clothes. It was too cute.
EE's - Elizabeth (she's sort of cream & tan, looks a LOT like QE, the Queen Mother) and Bridget
Speckled Sussex - Penelope
BR - Hammy (short for Hambone)
Black Langshan - Charlotte (should have called her Mae, she reminds me of Mae West)
BA - Violet
GLW - Sophia
I lost:
Delaware - Primrose
BO...
This stuff comes in a bag, they are alfalfa based pellets. I've sent an email to the company, located in the Netherlands to ask them how much for 7 chickens. We'll what response I get.
I called RB- the gal read the instructions: "Mix one bag in enough feed to supply 100 5lb birds" O.K., I have 7- so how much would I use? ? ? Not much help there!
I read a rather lengthy post on the pros & cons of various wormers. I haven't seen any worms in the girls, but it has been a wet summer and they spend a lot of itme free ranging. Since I have so few hens, I really don't want to scrap the eggs for 2 weeks and thought I'd try Fenbendazole...
